China's capital orders Arabic, Muslim symbols taken down

Ya, you are right, Pakistan is in my list if I have opportunity to go there. Actually my cousin visited Kashmir few weeks ago and she is content with her journey. She visited Indian administered Kashmir, but as I have been in this forum for years and saw the beauty of Pakistan posted in several thread so I had suggested her to visit Pakistan instead of India next time she intend to go to South Asia again.

I think Indonesian food are much more vary than Malaysian food. I just remember Malaysian have nasi lemak, but in Indonesia you will have plenty of delicious food. I comes from Minang/Padang ethnic and its food are famous both in Indonesia and Malaysia. Rendang for instant is one of Minang food and CNN has regarded it as the most delicious food in the world. You can find Padang food quite easy across Indonesia and in Jakarta they are so many, even there are two Padang food restaurant near my house that I can reach by walking.

Jakarta Street Food

Padang/Minang food. The best location to visit in West Sumatra is Bukit Tinggi city. It is a well known tourist destination for people living in Indonesia and Malaysia. There are many Westerner tourist as well.

I watched these videos before of food ranger. In my opinion, it was one of his best food tours. The food looked fantastic and there was so much variety. What I enjoyed most is how friendly the people were. Hospitality and treating the guest with respect is a trait shared by both Indonesians and Pakistani's. This is unique to our Muslim heritage. I hope in the future our Indonesian brothers and sisters can do business in Pakistan and open restaurants across the country allowing us to experience Indonesian culture and cuisine. Tourism in Pakistan is picking up and In'sha'allah the Govt will facilitate them. I find it sad we Muslim's like to travel to the west but forget our brother countries. Japan has 10 million Muslim tourists each year, this should go to places like Pakistan and Indonesia. I never knew Beef Rendang was Indonesian. I always assumed it was Malaysian. It's one of my favorite dishes. Your cousin is more than welcome to visit Pakistan and course you too:) I am being biased here, but when someone visits Pakistan they never want to leave:) Due to the size, population and resources of Indonesia, I regard it one of the most important countries which can help revive the Muslim world. Pakistan must develop a good relationship with Indonesia based upon social, political and economics. In'sha'allah it will happen.

The western suits with ties that they proudly wear are also "part of American/European culture", but Chinese president and his ministers don't have problem copying the dress code of Americans/Europeans, now for convenience some will say you know but suit has become "international" or "universal" official dress, but that doesn't change the reality that Suit is a western or American/European dress code.

China US trade talks, so who is copying the dress code here Chinese or Americans?

Why don't they wear their own indigenous Chinese dress if they have so much problem from "foreign cultural influences", actually same also applies to Japanese and Koreans.

rBVaG1XxhXOAXecjAAKseIwUjcA491.jpg

Are you kidding me? Why point out just clothes? China has done far more than that. What Mao didn’t destroy his successors have done instead.

Thousands of years of lifestyle and architecture thrown away in a few decades to copy the West. What kind of a big “oops” is that supposed to sound like to the children learning about history in school. “China has had a proud civilization up until about 1990 when the great leaders decided to ‘modernize’ and turn China into a Western style country.” What kind of a “fail” does that imprint on people.

Imagine if we all traded what we know for Japanese kimonos, Pagodas, paper walls, chopsticks, cosplay, and deep bows??

Ya, you are right, despite having so many Indian military in Kashmir, she said she will come back. I have seen she took photo with so many Kashmiris and posted on her facebook. Kashmiris looks very friendly. I think Kashmiris and Pakistani are the same people so I guess she will be treated the same if she goes to Pakistan.

Many Indonesian usually went to South Korea, Singapore, China, or Hongkong just like some of my big families for vacation. My friend who visited western nations usually do it for work. Some prefers to go to Saudi for Umrah just like my mother who went there several times. I also make friend with Pakistani when I went to Makkah and we had a long talk inside Masjidil Haram.

Rendang is a food made by Minang people originated in West Sumatra, Indonesia, but many Minang people are also living in Malaysia. Malaysian first king is a Minang who comes from Negeri Sambilan state. Minang/Padang food I think are also many in Malaysia. Minang is a good traders/businessmen people.

Ya, I think both Indonesia and Pakistan are very important nation in the Muslim world. Both are the biggest and second biggest Muslim majority countries in the world.

Kashmir and the surrounding area is unique due to the mountain scenery. But I would highly recommend your cousin visiting the Northern Areas of Pakistan. It's definitely one of the best places to hike, enjoy the fresh air and the water is so clean/pure. I would recommend going to Fairy Meadows it's really breathtaking. Pakistan hospitality is legendary. Watch both videos from Mark Wein and Food Ranger. Most food vendors didn't accept payment. On the comment section, there are many Indonesian posters who said nice things.

I have never been to South Korea although I had the opportunity to step inside North Korea:) The places visited by your family makes sense brother, after all, they are developed, safe and have the facilities for foreign tourists. But the biggest hassle for Muslim's is always finding Halal food restaurants in these countries. At least when your cousin visits Pakistan everything is Halal. Ma'sha'allah, I glad your mother visits Saudi for Umrah we should all endeavor to do the same. In'sha'allah, I am planning to go in the next two years.

Thank you, for educating me on the culture of Indonesia. Were the people of Minang the first ethnic group to revert to Islam? Is Dr. Mahathir Bin Mohamad a Minang? I would definitely like to learn more about Indonesia. I watched the film Raid 1 & 2 and was impressed with the Silat Martial Arts.

Yup some of my big families like to go there but as I said previously I dont have any interest to go there for vacation, not only because it will be hard for finding halal food but also not many mosque can be found there, in Indonesia and also in many Muslim countries there are so many places to pray, even our malls are usually equipped with place to pray. It is why there are so many Arabs visiting Indonesia for vacations.

Pakistan and Turkey are two countries that I would like to visit beside Saudi. I had watched the video you posted before and I also have seen so many Mountainous Pakistan picture posted by Ghazi. They are very beautiful. :-) The food I bet is great as I have watched Mark Wein and Food ranger visit to Pakistan. What kind of Pakistani food do you recommend me to eat ? There is Pakistani restaurant in Jakarta and I would like to come there some day.

So you have been in North Korea, it is a rare experiment, not many people have opportunity to go there. :)

Ya, my mother is a devout Muslim, she is used to pray Tahajjud every night. My father is also the same, always do night prayer but he has passed away.

No, Mahathir is not a Minang but Malaysian First Prime Minister and founding father (Tunku Abdurrahman) is a Minang. Yup, you are right, The Minang is the people in Indonesia who are among the first to embrace Islam as it is located in Sumatra island. But the very first Indonesian ethnic to embrace Islam is Acehnese and they also live in Sumatra island. The place is near Malacca Strait so that is the reason.

The Minang is famous with its politician and entrepreneurship despite only have about 5,5 million people. One of states in Malaysia which is Negeri Sambilan is ruled by Minangnese kingdom. The first President of Singapore (Yusof Ishak) is also a Minangnese. Bung Hatta, one of Indonesian Independence proclamator beside Soekarno is also a Minang. I have made a thread about Indonesian ethnicities in here with the first post is about Minang people :P https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/unity-in-diversity-indonesian-ethnic-groups.621016/

For your information, Not many Pakistani is in Indonesia but there are some Pakistani Indonesian who are working in entertainment industry and politician. Mix Pakistani Indonesian also become third winner of this year Puteri Indonesia competition, Indonesian prominent beauty pageant.

When I go to Beijing next time I will confirm it for myself. If this is the case then this policy is wrong. The Govt needs to think clearly before it acts. But when I was in Beijing this did not occur. Each restaurant had a clear halal sign in Arabic. This includes places in Shanghai and Chengdu. Since @beijingwalker lives in Beijing maybe he can give us a clear picture to resolve the issue.

Bro...they're just doing this in Xinjiang to suppress Uyghurs...rest of China is not enforced with these policies. If they did, the whole world would go in a uproar.

They act nice and cool in the major cities where foreigners come whereas they show their true colors in Xinjiang.

Yup bro, I think there are so many marriage happening between Muslim from different countries after Facebook become popular.

My cousins living in Saudi are marrying Arab and Pakistani women but I think they both use traditional approach rather than online.

Here are examples of mix married between Indonesian and other Muslim nationals that we can find on youtube.

Your first sentence isn't true. Most restaurants have a clear halal sign written in Arabic. In fact, when I was in Chengdu I met a group of Pakistani's in a Hui restaurant who were from Pindi. They couldn't understand Chinese and most people in the area can't speak English, thus the Arabic sign for halal was the only way they could tell this was a Muslim restaurant. The same applies to my experience in other cities. I wouldn't eat meat in a restaurant unless I saw a halal sign in Arabic.

Again this is wrong. Muslim's in China read the Quran in Arabic, I would know since it was gifted to me by my friend as a present. Furthermore, only the commentary on the side is written in Chinese. This obviously makes sense, as a Muslim should understand the meaning behind the words. The Hui were influenced by the Arabs. In regards to the rest of your post, I agree.

This sentence is a contradiction. On one hand, you claim who are people to judge. But you have fallen into that same trap. Who are you to judge Chinese Muslim's are better than Pakistan and Turkish Muslim's in practicing and understanding the religion. It's there culture and country but if such policies are true then shit will hit the fan and the Govt will reget it.

Really? The Tang dynasties relationship with the Muslim world was very strong. In fact, it was so strong, Emperor Xuanzong asked for help from the Abbasid Caliphate to dispose of An Lushan a rebel general. The situation only changed at the end of the Tang dynasty when Muslim's were massacred in Guangzhou by rebel forces. Even during the Song dynasty Arab influence in the region was relatively good since trade between the two civilizations was high. The Chinese were big importers of frankincense. China has 56 ethnic minorities, don't equate the historic viewpoint of the Han as the stance of modern China.

Provide proof that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that to his uncle? To my knowledge, it was Omar bin Abdul-Aziz the great-grandson of Umar ibn Khattab (RA) to have commissioned the first translation of the Quran from Arabic into another language. The call to prayer isn't in Chinese. I don't know what mosque you have gone to but they call the Azaan in Arabic.

You shouldn't make statement's when your knowledge is rather poor. There are 24 graves of the Sahaba in Istanbul. Furthermore, it will be Pakistan in the future that will play a pivotal in reviving the Muslims.

A true Muslim will never make such a statement. This might be accepted in China but as Muslim's, we don't believe in the idea of culture and country being independent of our faith. We aren't secular instead Allah's law remains supreme. Therefore, calling other Muslim's stupid when you failed to grasp the basics is rather ironic.
Well put!.
When I travel, I will eat at Halal place only despite being of Kosher strictness, I believe that is the 2nd best I can have; the symbol is my only guide.

Hui are seperate people from Uighurs in both language and culture. Uighurs use arabic script more or less how Farsi or Urdu uses the same script with variances.

Hi Angang is the architecture of the xenophobic crackdown under Xi. Below is his policy which is having traction in the government.

"The strongest proponents of a radically revised “second generation minzu policy,” Hu Angang (Director of the Center for China Studies at Tsinghua University) and Hu Lianhe (then a counterterrorism researcher, now a leading official at the United Front Work Department of the C.C.P.), argued that only after assimilating minorities into a broader pan-Chinese ethnicity (Zhonghua minzu) would China be stable. The two Hus proposed, in effect, to abandon China’s traditional imperial pluralism, as continued under the P.R.C. minzu system, in favor of a concept of unitary identity reminiscent of 19th- and early-20th-century European nationalism"

On Food Ranger, check his videos taken 2 years back for Silk Road; where he visits most of the cities and towns in Xinjiang and how open and bustling the places are; no more - it is complete silence and people have disappeared. You will also note their script all over their buildings together with Chinese.

In all other countries, chinese shops have their own banners; we give them respect to allow them to do as they please; the same must be reciprocated to them to adhere to local rules.

China has always been humble. Weird thing is, you can never see the humbleness from muslims. There are only two groups of people that dare interfere China's internal affairs. Arrogant westerners and muslims. For god sake, these terrorists killed thousands of our people. We don't have any room for more humbleness on this issue.
What thousands; the people who killed own chinese in the millions were the Communist parties themselves. Let us not forget what PLA did in Tiannenmin square or how many thousands disappeared as Falongong followers.

Show me what happened to that brave civilian who stood in front of the PLA tanks or is it something you cannot even see or allowed to be seen.

There is a deliberate policy to over populate Tibet/XInjiang with han chinese as well.

They act nice and cool in the major cities where foreigners come whereas they show their true colors in Xinjiang.

What you said could be true, but as I said in my previous post on this thread, I will also visit Xinjiang in the future to determine if this is true. China is a big ally of Pakistan but that doesn't mean I will accept their religious prosecution of Muslims. End of the day it won't be good for the region and inside China. I hope the CPC Govt uses its common sense. If they don't then Pakistan as an ally can guide them to improve the situation. I know the Chinese Govt wants to foster good links with the Muslim world, but this can only be successful if they treat its Muslim population with dignity. Since 1978, China has evolved and progressed significantly they shouldn't under no circumstances go back to Maoism.

Well put!.

Hui are seperate people from Uighurs in both language and culture. Uighurs use arabic script more or less how Farsi or Urdu uses the same script with variances.

I follow the same principle. When I first landed in China, my experience was extremely difficult on the first month because I had no idea where the halal restaurants were. Pakistani's are predominately meat eaters...I need my meat to survive. The funny thing was the Muslim district in Beijing was only two streets away from my residence. Oh, well, at least I got there in the end. The Halal symbol is the best sign, you don't need to learn the language its universal among Muslim's. Therefore, the person I quoted was talking BS. I agree the Uyghurs and Hui are different. I love Hui culture, they have there own martial arts, food and clothing style. They were the most formidable fighters in Chinese history and during the war against Japan.

Well put!.

.

This policy is wrong. I want the Uyghur people to assimilate into Chinese society, but I am referring to social harmony between the communities. There is a big divide that exists I have never denied this. However, Hu Angang is a very controversial figure in China. He has been heavily criticized in China, and there were calls from the public demanding his expulsion from the University. Some of his suggestion is in direct conflict with Li Keqiang. The CPC Govt should not adopt this policy. In my opinion, the generation which wasn't affected by the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution will bring China in the right direction. Most of them would have been educated in the west and they won't be narrow-minded. But only time will tell us this answer. I hope for China's sake they will do it.

On Food Ranger, check his videos taken 2 years back for Silk Road; where he visits most of the cities and towns in Xinjiang and how open and bustling the places are; no more - it is complete silence and people have disappeared. I agree the Chinese must reciprocate the gesture. If they have a problem with a Halal sign then they are in serious trouble of inflaming the situation. When you respect and give dignity to people then they will reciprocate. If they don't then members from there own community will criticize them. Things are always changing in China, thus it is my hope when I visit the region I can find out the truth.
