Seeking a cooperative relationship with India to build an Asian century, a senior Chinese official on Wednesday underlined that China will not pursue a policy to obstruct or oppose India's efforts to get a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.

"We welcome a more positive and important role by India in the United Nations," Huang Huaguang, an official of the international department of the Communist Party of China, said in an interaction at the Observer Research Foundation, a think tank.

We don't have a policy to obstruct or oppose India's efforts to get a permanent seat in the UN Security Council, Hu, director general, Research Office, at international department of the CPC, said when asked about China's position on India's candidacy for a permanent seat in the UNSC.

He added that the ongoing debate about the reforms of the UN Security Council is chaotic and should be better coordinated.

Although it has backed a bigger role for India in the UN's top decision-making body, China has vacillated and has yet to declare its support for India's bid to join the UNSC.

Huang is part of the Chinese delegation which is currently visiting New Delhi to apprise the Indian leadership and opinion-makers about broad contours of China's economy and foreign policy under the new dispensation that is expected to take charge in March next year.

He also underscored the need for better strategic communication with India and stressed on resolving conflicts through dialogue. "The rise of us (India and China) together will be a very important phenomenon on the world stage," he said.

We are two large developing and populous countries and we should have better strategic communication and stronger economic relations, he said.

As long as India is with the G4 it doesn't matter.

Japan has territorial disputes with China and Russia, two veto members. The G4 is dead in the water.

We've already said we were willing to back India as long as they abandoned the G4 and campaigned for a seat independently.

As of now, they are planning to enter as a group of four which will never happen.

I dont think India has ever say that all G4 should be in UN. All are independently doing it.

India and China pretty much follow the same policies except for east Asia/Pakistan. More than China, the opposition would be by US.

No, the entire point of the G4 initiative is that each member is backing all of the other G4 members, so they will all enter at the same time.

There will be one big reform resolution of the UN charter to allow a group of nations in. We obviously can't have a separate reform resolution for each country individually, that wouldn't make sense or be feasible.

Dont worry. If Indian policy makers realize that India has better chance without g4. They wont take 1 sec and change policy. India only works for itself. With g4 India was trying for a platform. China, Usa, Britain, France and russia have all now said they want Indian in. If we dont need g4 we will not support them.

We already asked India not to go along with the G4, but India turned us down.

China was even ready to support India's move for a permanent seat on the UNSC if India did not associate its bid with Japan, top Chinese diplomats told Sitaram Yechury, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member, in talks this week.

Mr. Dai told Mr. Yechury that China's reluctance to voice support was more sourced in India's decision to put forward its bid along with Japan, Germany and Brazil, under the banner of the G4 group of nations. He said China could never accept Japan's bid because of “historical baggage”, and was hence opposed to the G4 grouping.

This is an important part to note in the article:

India will have to find another way that does not involve the G4, since the G4 has literally zero chance as a group.

We don't need more American voices in the UNSC, which is exactly what Japan will be. Even their pacifist constitution was written by the Americans.

The G4 will be vetoed down faster than the Syria resolution.

Well when you dont really have other members in the current UNSC backing you, the best India can do is lobby for the UNSC seat along with other major powers that are not already in the UNSC.

No current member in UNSC really wants another nation to have veto power, in case interests collide in the future. But the UNSC membership needs to be changed or reformed. Not like much gets done in the UNSC anyways, any major decision that shows up there, either US-China is on opposite ends and one vetoes...

.
If India really wants the UNSC permanent seat, it will go for it alone. By being part of G4, India is just creating publicity without actually expecting this to succeed. After all, India is neither economically nor strategically ready to be a part of the UNSC anyway. India is just trying to creative enough noise for a potential later bid.

For the record, this is the UNSC voting stats.

IMO, veto power should be done away with.

I am personally against India seeking veto power or even a permanent seat.

UN should be a platform for all nations to decide issues on equal terms.

.
India should make the rightful noises but not be overtly worried. Focus on the economic growth and growing the military might as well and at some point, say in a decade or so, the world powers will be forced to revamp UNSC to accomodate India with all the powers intact else UNSC will fade away just like the League of Nations.

.
India will not be allowed in UNSC until atrocities in IOK are stopped... And no UNSC member will give up their seat for India, I guarantee you
