China-Sri Lanka Cooperation: News & Discussions

China can do whatever it wants, india is only capable of watching in the sideline.
:-) Sri Lanka is located in a strategic spot where Chinese ships and others sailing to the Middle-East and Europe may need to stopover for refueling or repairs.

I do not know what the problem with India is?

Sri Lanka should seize the opportunity to create job and trade opportunities for herself. She can easily be the next Singapore in the Indian Ocean. India can also benefit from it.

Too bad India is poorer than China and cannot offer the kind of financial muscle that China has.

SL needs USD 10-20 billions of investment not 1-2 billions of peanuts which can't make any different. :enjoy:

Why should india be concerned?? U.S/U.K naval warships regularly/constantly patrol the Indian Ocean without any concerns from India. In fact we even have a military base there for patrols. So i don't see why there should be any concern from India if a Chinese warships simply pays a visit to Sri Lanka, Many countries in the world do that, even small developing countries do that regularly.

So no need for India to be worried IMO.

I agree with you.

China's international trade volume is far bigger than any other nation, so is there massive investments (for example ports, and associated infra) along the maritime trade routes in IOR, Suez and Mediterranean. Most of the ships are either heading for a Chinese port (7 out of 10 world's largest ports are in China) or have departed from one, even if China-invested overseas ports are discounted.

While international tax-paying community especially the Americans have been funding heavily (even with deficit budgets) for naval security of these routes for decades, it's a fair global responsibility that Chinese are inevitably shouldering up a reasonable share of this financial burden.

India is also watching in SCS with the Vietnam.:D

Highly inaccurate assessment,

1) Sri lanka has pivoted to China & Pakistan & so has Nepal & Myammar, Sri lanka's defence relationship with Pak has been there since many years despite Indian opposition. Jf 17 deals have only strengthened it. Nigeria plans in on buying it as well.

2) CPEC is set to economically integrate central asia, China, Russia , Pakistan & now Iran is joining in as it would now be able to transport oil / gas to China via Pakistan. Just last week Joint Pak iran delegation decided to link Gwadar with Chahbahar, thus linking Chahbahar to Kashghar (CPEC) in future through Pakistan. Today Economic sanctions have been lifted thereby increasing chances of this happening, Iran had indicated to join CPEC before this also.

3) Pakistan has started hosting multi lateral talks involving Afghan taliban, China, US & Afghan govt. Pakistan's influence has been accepted & Pak is playing a positive role.

4) Sharif duo is leaving for Riyadh & Tehran to help settle their stand off. For saudis Pakistan's importance has increased tremendously thus we saw a flurry of visits by saudi royals.

5) Russia is eyeing Pakistan as a potential partner , it signed $2.5 billion north south gas pipeline, Putin is supposed to come in 2016 to inaugurate it. CPEC will end in Xinjiang which borders Russia thereby allowing it access to warm waters of arabian sea.

6) Just 2-3 days a go Chinese Pak navies conducted navy exercises with a joint statement stating the resolve to protect CPEC.

All these factors indicate Pak is playing on the front foot in the diplomatic arena, just because congress stalled sale of 8 F-16's no way reflects Pakistan's influence is decreasing. Compare the situation with Pakistan of 2008-2013, today we gained external strength due to internal cleansing ( Zarb-e-Azb) & internal strength (unprecedented civil military cooperation ).

A retarded kind delusional response .
SL is an independent country and will have relation with other nations .
India didnt opposed that .
But when it comes to the military systems we need to consider our security of strategic systems in Southern India and we will do that whether neighbours like it or not.

We should admit that Pakistan's influence is decreasing. Sri Lanka already stopped on arrival visas for Pakistanis. IT was among the few nations that had such an arrangement. Recently f16's sale was blocked by US congress. Pakistan is on the verge of being completely isolated. How the situation plays out in sri lanka and whether it buys our jf17's will be a test of Pakistan's (should I say decreasing?) power.
With due respect aren't you a bit harsh?? IMHO JF-17 sale went to that limit is a solid proof that Pakistan influence is on the rise...Look India has a significant influence on Sri Lanka and that will not evaporate into this air like this...also blocking of F-16 is more of a congress thing...has happened in the past as well and might move forward with some more hand twisting from both sides..

Let me quote something from the comment section of the article:

Hindia is weak nation militarily and its neglect of the south which is surrounded by the sea has made it vulnerable for small nations to kick ***. While it is able to swallow land locked small nations up north.
Hindia went out marketing for F16 class and nuclear subs but were unable to do so because of its reluctance to take part in American South China Sea war games.
Even though Hindia/Russia has a long standing defense treaty traditionally China gets the best of Russian defense equipment.
With the new Taiwanese government Chinese in the west are preparing to be flattened by USA.
The 1% Indian population in the USA are the next most powerful people after the Jews.
Sinha le days are numbered like Qaddafi

The frustration is strong here. :cheesy::cheesy:

How is retarded, didn't Sri lanka become one of the top importers of Pakistani weapons throughout its civil war. If that isn't a problem, why is India getting paranoid now, read history before you post anything.
Regards

I already said we will interfere if there is any threat to our strategic areas.
I was talking about Chinese threat .Pakistan is not a problem in here .Supplying some bullet vests and guns is also not an issue to us.

SL..You better be ready to face India's wrath now..!

Sri Lanka is an independent country, why would they be bullied by their neighbour.

Lol. Supa Powa India's power being projected in the region, great display.

Hypa powa India is showing too much concerns these days :D :D

Next will be to send a couple of submarines to visit Sri Lanka.

China can do whatever it wants, india is only capable of watching in the sideline.

Indian Ocean is too big for India to swallow. So I don't get why they are angry with anybody operating there.

N’Eliya MC signs agreement with Chinese firms for cable car project
View(s): 253
An agreement to set up and maintain a cable car transport project was signed on Friday between the Nuwara Eliya Municipality and two leading cable transport companies from China.

The signing of the agreement opens up opportunities to cater to a long-felt need in the tourism industry and will enable tourists to better observe the natural beauty of the area in a much shorter time.

The project is estimated to cost around 50 to 60 million US dollars.

The cable transport project will cover a distance of approximately 6 km encompassing the area from Gregory’s Lake, Single Tree Mountain and Nanu Oya.

The agreement was signed at the Municipal Council office in the presence of representatives of the Chinese companies, members of the Municipal Council and local government officials on Friday.

The project has been long overdue and discussions on the subject has taken place from time to time over the past 20 years.
