China offers stunning duty-free access to Bangladeshi goods

Brother..you have to thank we "Bharatis" for this..if not for containing us ..why would you think Chinese be so generous towards you and Pakistan?

Anyways.. congratualations and I sincerely hope this would change the lives of millions of people...

In a way, your post is nothing, but trolling.

May be its time to accept the reality of your country's short-coming
rather than taking the credit you don't deserve;

The strategic vision and sense of purpose being shown by China in the sub-continent is in stark contrast to the manner in which India is drifting along, in spite of being seen as the region’s custodian. While India has been burning diplomatic bridges with its neighbours with its ‘big brother’ attitude, China has been building them.

In 2002, India and China did about the same amount of trade (exports and imports) with their four big South Asian neighbours, namely Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the ountrNepal and Sri Lanka. In 2007, China was doing 36% more than India (See table: China Versus India).

well India has it problems with some nasty neighborhoods...and the countries with which we have a nicer relations have India higher than China while our situation with Bangladesh is getting better and with Pakistan too!Trade with SAARC nations accounts for only 2% of India's net trade! And the good thing is that despite of so many barriesr our Trade wit Pakistan id growth way faster than China's and has surpassed friendly China's 2002 levels....

Its not quid pro quo.

"We are stunned by the magnanimity of the offer. Its beauty is that Beijing hasn't imposed any preconditions for availing the access, nor does it want any reciprocal action by Bangladesh," he added.

It is a generous offer. A huge gesture of goodwill.

that is really good news.. BD has a huge potential if its leadership has a good vision. No need to Blame your Neighbours. as you have sea access, and with enormous population BD could have done a china long back.

Have a question what does the BD offer back to china. I mean what has BD opened to Chinese industries. I am asking this because even some big indian industries are shocked to their core when competing with Chinese. they are too cheap and efficient.

I hope your Local Industries are well insulated.. see two sides of the coin before commenting. if both side looks good, have a enjoy the news. :yahoo:

Offcourse you did not read the article and too eager to express your pain. News is - not everyone think like indian and try to apply hegemony on neighbors.

Thanks for sharing your brilliant wisdom, impressive i must say.

Good move by china.A bilateral free-trade agreement(like what china have with pakistan)would have harmed bangladeshi industries but this is unilateral and highly beneficial to bangladesh. This is indeed an excellent opportunity to to improve economy of bangladesh.Congrats to brilliant diplomacy of present bangladeshi goverment who is creating good ties with all it's neighbours.

This Chinese goodwill has very little if anything to do with Awami League regime diplomacy. China as a true friend watching how Bangladesh economy was systemetically undermined and how Bangladesh strategic standing was destroyed by one sided subversive Awami regime policy for strengthening indian hegemony.

This Chinese move specifically address ( in some degree) that strategic void and destruction created by Awami regime india centric submissive policy.

.
Well there goes the theory that Awami party is destroying the Bangladeshi economy. These deals never happen in vacuum. There is definitely hardwork of Bangladeshi ministers and officials behind this

.
I wish same for Pakistan
You don't have too. We've signed FTA with China in
China and Pakistan signed an agreement on free trade area (FTA) on November 24, 2006, in the presence of top leaders from both countries. The agreement is projected to triple current bilateral trade to 15 billion US dollars within five years.

A good deed should not go un-noticed. Hasina should remember that. She can claim some credit, it happened under her Administration. But in the end she will milk it for all that is worth.

Politically speaking she just threw the kitchen sink at Khaleda Zia. Waiting to see what KZ makes out of this.

FTA is a two way trade liberalisation not necessarily duty free acees of every goods. But in this case its unilateral duty waiver for Bangladesh. China does not require any reciprocal gesture from Bangladesh.

Any breakup of the trade by import & export? This will provide a better perspective of the SAARC-China trade.
I will not be surprised if the trade balance is heavily in favour of China.

If that's the political understanding you have then I am glad you have long way to catch up with geo politics and reality.

On the topics,
Regardless, this Chinese goodwill is not for capitalizing political gain (as indians are desperately suggesting and Awami die hard are pushing) but for economic gain of Bangladesh and its people. This opportunity has been served in platter but can Awami regime facilitate and deliver on it? Or Awami regime will turn this another "digital" trademark project?? There are lots of work ahead of us and our enemy around us will only try to put obstacle on the way.
