Due to high female infanticide in last two decades there are not enough marriageable age women in Punjab and Haryana so the men from these states are marrying women from other Indian states.

yeah read about that ... I mean what we did to our girls in our state has to be the most shameful chapter in the history of India. We are paying the price of it now. During election times I heard candidates saying in some villages that if you will elect me I will make sure every bachelor will get a wife. It's just pathetic. Although things are changing for good but still a long way before we can over come the damage we inflicting on ourselves.

@Aminroop....This is a serious issue we have in our hand..... to give you an idea some of my class mates are grandmothers.....

This issue was severe in malappuram Wynad, calicut areas predominantly from Muslim community and lower caste hindu community, and this was attributed to lack of education and awareness. Things have changed in last decade, awareness have improved a the percentage is dropped,If you read the OP southern districts contribute more....

I think it may have to do with the reputation of Kerala as the top state in Literacy and HDI. Not only Kerala, but whole of South has a reputation. But in some pockets such marriages are rampant. While the above mentioned states do not claim of being a top state in HDI.
There is one leader of political party filed a case to stop the harrassment of Police and Child services members in trying to stop marriages of girls under 18 as they are allowed under their religion.

Yes. Tamil Brahmins can also belong to Kerala. Yours truly being one of them. Our Tamil has words heavily borrowing from Malayalam. And we can understand Malayalam. Traditionally called Palakkad Iyers. But need not be from Palakkad. I for one am from Ernakulam area.

My family especially on Fathers side traces its roots to Kerala too. Great grand-mom spoke malayalam almost exclusively (she raised my dad and his eldest sister in his younger days since family was quite big). Lots of our cuisine has Kerala influences and apparently our Tamil is very influenced by Malayalam vocabulary.

Coimbatore-Palghat area is definitely a contiguous zone culturally and ethnically for the most part.

But even with all this, we still get frustrated at some of the antics that Kerala people try to pull (heavy unionisation, do everything by the book/regulation, "lazy", communist like thinking etc etc) when they are within Kerala but also when they come to TN to work......because we have seen they suddenly shed this mentality when they go to Gulf to work.....they can be real hard industrious workers if they commit themselves to be (after all they are the same overall stock as us Tamil makkal)...but for some reason they still for a large part choose not to be when in India. Maybe my impression is outdated now, who knows.

The "secular" here defines the self righteous kind who base their opinions on Prejudice rather than Facts.

It indicate a lack of choice, people wedded to an impossible idea which has no basis in reality.
