Child marriages remain Kerala’s secret shame

I still dont understand @ranjeet 's kerala connection.

On topic:
Yes,girls get married early in Kerala- that's the tradition.
There's a certain community which marries off its daughters as early as 16. When inquired, somebody told me its allowed in their religion ergo the marriage laws (of India) are not applicable to them. Not sure if that was joke.

Not many.
Just 2 or 3.

Are you saying it does not happen in UP, MP, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar ? its a lot more rampant there mate , its just that none of them going to election next year.
So female sexual exploitation issue becomes an election topic? quite an escapist approach to the whole debate.

.
In other words, 0.604 per cent of all girls in the State aged between 12 and 15 had entered wedlock prematurely and illegally. And these are just the officially captured figures.

Have i denied it?
I was myself shocked to know that it happened in kerala.
But this is limited to certain parts of kerela,it happens mostly in northern-kerala or in less developed parts of kerala like Vayanad.
@nair am i wrong?

What is the debate? if we are having one on child marriages then lets have one which focus on the whole country , not just a state which is going to an election in a few months.

. . . .
article says
have you read the article?

"We find it really difficult since family members, neighbours, local politicians and even the local community leaders refuse to cooperate, in most cases. In some instances, some CMPOs have even been made scapegoats for stepping in. In most cases it is tough to gather evidence strong enough to stand in court – so convictions, naturally, are very rare"

If they cannot prove it then how its statistically correct.
They might have got right data, but unless its validated and stands correct in court of law the data doesnt hold truth. Its as simple as that.

Nah you were talking about girls being married at age of 16, people were demanding a law to reduce the age till 16 openly. It's girls aged 12-15 and giving birth to kids that's worrisome. Then there is issue of Arabi Kalyanam, has it stopped or is it still prevalent in certain parts of kerala?
