Army Chief General Raheel Sharif turns 60

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has turned 60 today (June 16).

The general was born on June 16, 1956 in Quetta. He assumed the office of Army Chief on November 29, 2013. Gen Sharif is set to retire on November 28, 2016.

He is married and has three children; two sons and a daughter. He went to Government College Lahore for studies and after that was appointed as a Commissioned Officer in Pakistan Army in the year 1976.

The appointment of CoAS is in principle for three years subject to extensions granted by the President of Pakistan on the recommendation of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

There is no provision in the Pakistan Army Act, 1952 with regard to an extension in service. However, extensions have been granted to army chiefs in the past, according to Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT).

Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on January 24, 2016 ended growing speculations about an extension in his tenure through a brief statement: “I don’t believe in extension and will retire on the due date.”

It was unprecedented for an Army Chief to confirm so early on that he would be leaving his office upon retirement.

General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) visited Corps Headquarters Karachi this evening. Federal Interior Minster Ch Nisar Ali Khan. NSA Lt Gen Retd Nasser Janjua, Governor and CM Sind, Home Minister Sindh Sohail Anwar Sial, DG ISI and Corps Comd attended the meeting. Participants were briefed in detail about security situation and various aspects of ongoing operation against terrorists, criminals and their linkages in Karachi.

He belongs to my town Kunjah district gujrat.Born in Quetta but his hometown is Kunjah Gujrat,.
Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed was born here,and had spent some of his childhood here,along with his family.And even General Raheel sharif kept visiting kunjah with his parents occasionaly ,while he was child.Thier house is still here, I hope he will visit it again after retirment
