This is the first hike in ration allowances in the last nine years.

RAIPUR: In a major decision, Chhattisgarh government has decided to hike the allowances for police jawans including constable, assistant constables and secret troops posted in Naxalite-dominated areas of Bastar division, Gariyaband and Rajnandgaon.

The move, which is expected to benefit nearly 22,000 police jawans, would result in an almost 58% hike in emoluments of assistant constables, who, after the revision, would get Rs 14,144 per month instead of Rs 8,990 earlier. In addition, they would be entitled to Rs 25 lakh insurance cover like other policemen. This would reportedly cost the exchequer an additional sum of Rs 121 crore annually.

A decision to this effect was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Raman Singh on Tuesday.

He said Naxalism continues to be a major problem for state, specifically in the Bastar region. He said while 70% of Naxalism in country affected state, of this 90% is in Bastar division. He said those fighting Naxalites need to be provided monetary support and benefits.

According to officials, as per the cabinet decision, ration allowances have also been increased from Rs 650 to Rs 2,650 for state police force deputed in Bastar. This is the first hike in ration allowances in the last nine years.

Ration allowances have also been increased for STF from Rs 1,200 to 2,200. The cabinet has also decided to hike Naxalite areas allowances for all three categories. The allowance for personnel in most sensitive areas would be 50% of their basic salary; 35% for sensitive areas and 15% for the general affected areas. This amount will be applicable till 2018-19 and further decisions would be taken in this regard in a review meeting before March 31, 2019.

The cabinet also approved 150 additional posts for Secret Troops. As of now there are 458 secret troops active in state. In addition, shoes worth Rs 2,000 and a backpack worth Rs 1,000 would be given to jawans and assistant constables in a year. The government has also decided to set up a 100-bed trauma centre in Jagdalpur with the help of police housing corporation for treatment of personnel injured in Naxalism violence.

The centre would come up in a PPP model and probably start functioning within a year. The estimated cost of the centre would be Rs 12.50 crore.

after the revision, would get Rs 14,144 per month instead of Rs 8,990

How shameful is it for a nation to expect a man to wilfully put himself in harms way for 8990.00 now revised to 14,144.00 per month ?

My driver earns about the same as the revised emoluments .

This hike is also not good enough.

Forget that, a water wash boy in a 2 wheeler service station get more than that a month in my state....... They should be paid at least 3 times of this.......

Now I hope the MHA will also decide an End Date when this "war" will be finally won.

Otherwise, Like in the NE "fighting terror" will become a lucrative industry and then it will never end.

Its funny how no body in the Media or in the general Public remember to ask such basic fundamental questions to when the war will be won.

There is a mission of down sizing the security forces and increasing their effectiveness by increased skill development and training and also improvement of infra-structure such as transport and weaponry.
Increase in salary will not only make the job lucrative, it will also attract talent. Young men can look towards para-military forces as a career if the job offers sufficient compensation for the fact that they are risking their lives.
Its a pity that these brave men and women are paid such a meager amount. While the salary structure has to be consistent with pay commission pay bands, what government can do is increase allowances and/or have a different IT rules for security personnel. This way atleast some of their economic worries will be taken care off.

Besides economic woes it is that attitude that is galling.

Problems are created by politicians & the uniformed man clears the mess.

He deserves respect ( not lip service).

OROP is an example.

Its not symbolic at all.
No no, i don't mean that.
Its a serious issue that requires all the attention it needs as it concerns a very large group of ex-service men.
Let me put it this way, almost all sectors have Unions that act as a pressure group to put forward their demands to government (Railways, telecom, banking etc). Armed forces don't have one and when issues like these come up, how can they take it up to government.
Please correct me if i'm wrong but in such matters of welfare of men and women who served their country on borders and in face of grave danger to life, several times it appears (to me atleast) that, a lot is like government's benevolence, rather than a good consistent policy.
Therefore if government goes ahead with One Rank One Pension scheme, it will be a great gesture not just to people on pension but the ones serving right now too as it conveys good intentions. Here lies the symbolic value of the same.

Why? Are there too many desertions from this unjust war on poor indigenous people struggling to keep their lands and forest from encroachment by MNCs?

Being poor doesn't mean you or me can blow up railway tracks, kill police etc, they have come to dialogue, these kind of things won't help.
