this is only a Predicted data, this paper is publised at March 2013, and predicted the data from "The buzz that the defence budget for the financial year 2013-14 (April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014) ", and predicted "Notably, the defence budget for 2013-14 accounts for approximately 1.79 per cent of the GDP."
By Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, India defence budget is 47.4billion $, 2.5% of GDP(1.9trillion $)
SIPRI are wrong in the way they measure things they, for some reason, include the budget for the central police forces (CRPF, BSF, ITBP, NSG etc) which is around $12BN. SIPRI have NO business adding this to India's defence budget as the CAPFs (Central Armed Police Forces) are under an entirely differently ministry Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as opposed to the Ministry of Defence (MoD). No on adds the US's Homeland Securty budget to the US's defence budget so why should that be the case for India?1.7% ???can you list the data of Indian GDP and defence spend ?
depend on Stockholm International Peace Research Institute

India's defence budget for 2013-14 was 1.78% as stared by the MoD in Parliament, it has touched a 52 year low (as a proportion of GDP) at just 1.74% of GDP:
Defence spend lowest since 1962 war | Business Standard News
No point in secure borders if that bankrupts a country. Look what happened to Soviet Union.
India should stick to raising defence budget in line with GDP growth.
Education,Health Care,Infrastructure development should also get a good hike. We need to put our money more on that rather than concentrating on defence only.

Anyway not from the Bangladesh.So dont worry.Where is the money going to come from?
Please leave this bloody socialist mentality back in 2013. If you are a rich man and can't defend yourself you're creamed. We desperately need new toys. This isn't a luxury, it's a necessity.

It is even more important to further properly allocate defense budget. I propose 50% hike in DRDO budget which is around 10000 crore at present at 5% of defense budget.
India is going to spend 1 TRILLION USD on infrastructure alone by 2020, the amount India spends on healthcare,education and poverty relief is FAR greater than the modest amount it spends on defence. A govt's first responsibility is to protect their citizens.Education,Health Care,Infrastructure development should also get a good hike. We need to put our money more on that rather than concentrating on defence only.
it is prety easy, cut off 10 million people's daily meal from 2 times to 1 .Where is the money going to come from?
In 2013, Indian GDP was 110 trillion rupees while defence budget was 1.934 trillion rupees. Do math and see if it was less than 2% or not. LOLs
India's total expenditure was 1658000 crore(16.58 trillion rupees) in 2013 or around $280 Billion.I like your solid data, in 2013
India defence= 1.934 trillion INR=32.2BN $(1.76%),
GDP=110 trillion INR=1.83trillion $,
60INR=1 $;
By the way, can any one give me the Revenue and expenditure of India in 2013?

Revenue of the whole government is 12.9trillion Yuan=2.1trillion $,
expenditure is 13.9trillion Yuan=2.26trillion,
