Here is an interesting article that I found on a Chinese military website:

The story is basically about a mock air fight between six Su-30 mkks, representing the blue team (the "enemy"), with J-10s on the red team. The Su-30s were on a strike mission and the J-10s took out 5 (shot down or injured) of the bombers and escorts with zero loss but guess who won?
The blue team because one of the Su-30s successfully penetrated the J-10's defence.
I don't want to turn this into another tiredsome Su-30 vs. J-10 thread but want to examine the PLAAF's training doctrines instead. Does anyone here think that the red team are being treated a little too harshly? Just how much damage could a lone Su-30 do?

蓝方仅存一架成功突防
  11月9日,在南空航空兵某师一场空中突击与防御作战演练中,蓝方担负突击任务的航空兵某团损失5架战机,只有1架战机突破重围。谁知,导演组宣布:“蓝方胜!”
  怎么回事?导演组讲评说:“蓝方赢就赢在突防成功的这一架飞机上!”师长吕建强对笔者说,尽管这一场战斗蓝方精锐尽失,战损比例较大,但唯一突防成功的一个架次达成了作战意图,因而判胜。
  回放此役,真相大白:蓝方指挥员、团长杨永飞以绝大多数战机用于佯攻和掩护,把突防的重任交给极少部分飞行员完成。
  这样打能行吗?笔者在指挥大厅大屏幕上看到,红方战机起飞后,分左中右3个方向布势,将防御目标围得严严实实。蓝方战机分成两路,如同两把尖刀直插对手两肋。数分钟后,双方接敌,就在蓝方战机相继被击落之际,一架战机幽灵般摆脱与对手的缠斗,超低空对红方战略目标成功实施打击。
 评估结果公布后,“单枪匹马”扭转战局的蓝方飞行员高景对笔者说,突防过程中,自己驾驶的战机也曾多次被对手锁定出现告警,但没有与对方纠缠,一边施放干扰,一边实施大载荷机动,终于把对手甩在身后,确保完成任务。(任甫清、特约通讯员闫国有报道)
  红方空战结果5:0被判输
  “凭什么判我们输?”对抗结果一公布,击落击伤“敌机”5架、自己毫发未损的红方飞行员个个脸红脖子粗,要求复盘重审。
  复盘再现交战画面:蓝方两个方向的进攻集群刚一飞临战场分界线,红方即实施拦截。右翼,10多分钟时间内,蓝方战机全部被击中。左翼,蓝方只有一架战机侥幸突破红方拦截。如果按战绩算,5∶0,红方是当之无愧的胜者。但事实上,就是蓝方突防成功的这架战机,成了红方胜绩的“终结者”。
  总导演、师长吕建强质问红方指挥员:“你们防御的目标在哪里?在地面!在天上击落击伤敌机是为了什么?是为地面目标安全。对方唯一突防成功的一架战机恰恰干掉了你们重兵防守的目标,能说你们赢了吗?”
  大厅里鸦雀无声,红方飞行员都低下了头。讲评结束后,红方指挥员、团长李锋心悦诚服地对笔者说:“师长说得对,我们丢了西瓜捡了芝麻,判我们输一点不冤枉!”(赵永固、特约通讯员闫国有报道)
  交战感言
  现代空战,目光绝不能仅仅停留在“击落敌机”多少的层面上。正像“001”和“100”相比,虽然都是同样的三个数字,但完成任务的“1”是“有效数字”,只有这个“1”存在,击落击伤“敌机”的那些“0”才构成战绩。

  我们这支军队过去打仗有一个好传统:不计较一城一地的得失,重在达成战略目的。过去地面作战如此,如今空中作战也不应“忘本”。我们常说,飞行员要有战略头脑,看起来要求很高不好把握,其实就体现在具体的战术运用中。
