Chabahar Port lures Afghan traffic away from Karachi

...on the contrary this is the latest...jan 2018 news.

Afghanistan’s transit trade through Pakistan picks up

ISLAMABAD:

Afghanistan’s transit trade through Pakistan has reached a value of $1.4 billion in the first six months of the ongoing financial year, indicating that the volume can increase to around $3 billion by the end of 2017-18.

In 2012-13, transit trade had slumped to $1.46 billion from $3.12 billion in 2010-11. However, numbers show that the volume has hovered around the $3-billion mark for the past few years. The highest figure in recent years has been $3.46 billion in 2015-16, while in the last fiscal year it was $2.87 billion.

Interesting. Just goes to show the power of basic geography. Pakistani ports are 400-500km closer to the economic heartland of Afghanistan i.e. the belt from Kunduz to Jalalabad along the Kabul river wherein the capital Kabul is also located. On top of this traders avoid having to go through too much Afghan territory, but rather can make their journey in security after crossing at Torkham.
For cities like Herat or Farah however Chabahar makes more sense.

ThankGod for this!!!

It is still not nearly good enough. This is fake muscle flexing by Afghans. They want to have it both was, but they cannot.

As long as Afghans are in Pakistan and continue to come here they are fooling themselves that they don't depend on Pakistan. The day millions of Afghans leave Pakistan and move to India we will applaud them. This is just fake happiness.

That $60 bn is the amount of investment/loans which has to be repaid to china and $2.5 Bn is the revenue loss, the amount which in theory would be used for repayment to china.
Gwadar is easily the biggest revenue generating unit in CPEC and when repayment time looms over the head of Govt, the revenue is already slipping away.
It would have been a lost of revenue if the exported goods were not to be smuggeled back in Pakistan as this is not the case here.

Pakistan is paying them back in RMB- not in dollars terms which surge a loss in foreign currency reserves. Morever, more RMB can be bought against $ in currency swaps which will help Pakistan paying the loans back.

Right it's all about geography, the geo-strategic position of Pakistan makes the Chahbahar port trade route to Afghanistan about 4-8 times longer and many a times more costly compared to direct trade through Pakistan, and transit trade through Karachi as well.

Pardon my French, What a crock of S--T. Indians are losing their shirt subsidizing Afghanistan, goods destined for Afghanistan entered Pakistan duty and taxation free, but were sold in Pakistan costing us billions/ yr in revenue, so this is a win win for Pakistan.

Under the deal negotiated by Retarded Political appointees all goods Afghanistan bound were carried by Afghan Trucks, please feel free to let me know the blow so far I am waiting........

Chabahar is a joke of a port and project. Feel good article nothing else.

Iran is connected via INSTC, OBOR, Ashgabat containing India China Russia Turkey etc while CPEC/Gwadar is all alone.
