Just curious as to how many of you guys can swim?

Please, no bullshit answers regarding bravado.

I cannot swim. I never learned, although many of my family are very good swimmers. Just curious to see how many people can swim, and If not, their reasons for it. Another thing is that I can swim in a swimming pool no problem, so I don't want dumb asses telling me they can swim just because of a swimming pool exercise. My family can swim in Sutlej and Indus rivers both. I would like responses from people that are good swimmers, and if not responses from people that have no idea how to swim.

Easiest way to learn how to swim. Attempt to drown yourself. That's how my dad taught me.

If you want to learn to swim, start small, work on the motions and work from there. That's how our cadets learned to swim. The military would teach them every step they'd need.

Once you were comfortable and the instructors felt you we apt enough, you'd transition to more strenuous tasks like simulated rescues of dummies and then live persons.

For those of us in SAR squadrons and naval aviation, we were also taught to bail from aircraft safely and advanced diving techniques, as were MDK EOD techs.

I was a championship diver during my primary schooling and also helped serve as a swimming instructor during my off-time in the RNoAF teaching cadets how to swim safely and build up their endurance.

Recently I visited Goa during christmas along with my friends. I visited a place called Dudh Sagar Literally meaning "Sea of milk". It is the 4rth tallest waterfall in India, I did swim with my friends. It was indeed a wonderfull experience which I will never forget.

Swimming is a dangerous thing people often underestimate. I have had an experience of swimming that has scared my family of it. Don't go too far out into the sea and never go to any beach, isle sea or pool alone! Be very very careful if you don't know how to swim. Also sometimes pools are very deep.

Good & smart judgement, swimming in sea or river is vastly different from swimming in small pool. I have exp in both sea & pool. Its vastly different, at sea waves are strong and salty water is dangerous if you ingress it.

I have tried to swim in river with medium speed but never had the strength or idea how to cut across the fast flowing river. More ever pool is a sanitized area where as natural water bodies you have no idea what you are stepping onto.

Just knowing only how to swim in a pool is dangerous like half knowledge it will give wrong confidence that they can swim out of dangerous situations instead of opting for safer options.

I love swimming:smitten:. But that shouldn't come as any surprise to anyone who knows about my military background. My job was literally called "Rescue Swimmer".

Swimming helped me drop all my pregnancy fat too:happy:. By far my second favorite form of exercise.

Sure, but then that's exactly what we were trained to respond to. People in distress wearing heavy, water-logged clothing. Not to mention in the frigged waters of the North and Barents Seas were temps in the negatives weren't uncommon.
