No, FGFA will be much better. And there's the PCA of course.

This F-22/F-35 hybrid won't be ready in just a few years anyway. It will be at least a minimum 7 year program once it starts.

They are still finalizing the requirements and this would be new design & air frame altogether.

The idea behind PCA is to build a new aircraft with existing tech very quickly. The USAF wants it within 5-10 years. They are developing new technologies for the F-22 MLU program, which they can use on PCA. Like a new GaN radar.

This F-22/F-35 hybrid is only a LM plan meant for exports. I doubt it will go anywhere. Even the USAF has clearly said that they want a new design for PCA because they want something that can escort the LRS-B, which the F-22 cannot.

I know more than Jane's does about Indian programs.

These journos have no clue. What the Indian officials have said is they will make a decision to either cancel, license produce, buy a few squadrons outright or go for FGFA after a few years. They have basically postponed the decision, and not simply cancelled the program.

One of the major reasons why they did this is because DRDO claimed they can make all the FGFA technologies by themselves. What this means is we do not have to throw money at R&D of FGFA for very less R&D workshare and that it's just better to buy some jets after it has finished development, like what we did with Mig-29.

The Russians are fine with providing full ToT for production, but we have faced problems in them agreeing to provide ToT for tech absorption. We think they will simply renege on the contract for full ToT, like they did with the Brahmos engine ToT.

So what we have told them is to finish developing the FGFA by themselves with their own money and then bother us once it's complete. Our workshare is so small that we can introduce it when the aircraft is MKIzed.

We even have the option of going for the development of the next version of the PAK FA, with much more advanced technologies. So we have plenty of options.

What? LM has already made the offer to the Japanese.

Funnily enough, they already know we are buying more of those.

They just want to dump their old stuff on us and wring as much as possible out of us. They know that American military exports to India is slowly closing over the next 10 years, so they want to make as much as possible before it permanently closes.

I wonder Why Yanks are so obsessed with selling F16's to India?
Besides the financial gains, there must be some thing more than what catches the eye.

Just a few days after India-Russia inked $5 billion S-400 air defence missile system deal, there were speculations suggesting the US might impose sanctions on India for signing a deal with Russia. Recently, the US has reportedly told India to but F-16s from them in order to get a waiver on sanctions post the Moscow deal.

While there were speculations claiming that India might face the US sanctions after they had purchased the S-400 air defence system from Russia, reports suggest that Washington has informally conveyed the New Delhi that they will be able to avoid the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) sanctions if they agree to purchase F-16 aircrafts from the United States. The following development surfaced after India-Russia inked the $5 billion defence deal while the Russian President Vladimir Putin was on his India visit. India’s neighbour Pakistan currently uses the same F-16 fighter jets which have been proposed to India by the US.

As per reports, India has not yet given any assurance on the proposal. Several defence experts suggest that Indis will not be keen in inducting then F-16 fighter jets as they are already being used by the Pakistan Air Force. Soon after India-Russia inked the billion dollar deal, there were reports that the US might impose sanctions on India from inking a deal with Russia. As per a report by Indian Express, the following S-400 deal between Moscow and Delhi led to a long discussion between Nirmala Sitharaman and James Mattis.

The reports further added that an offer to waive CAASTA was made earlier this month. The defence head of India and US had met on the sidelines of Association of Southeast Asian Nations Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM Plus) on Friday. Reports add that even though the deal had been finalised, the US sanctions might get triggered after India makes the payments for the S-400 missile system.

The following development surfaces after the US President Donal Trump, last week, said that India will soon find out the US’ stand on their S-400 deal with Russia.

My point is you can't do anything to stop the S-400 deal. Any threatening action from the US will only make our S-400 choice more secure.

Even this plan to blackmail us with F-16s for waiver will fail miserably.

Nope. You will see this pretty soon. Right now the focus is on our other programs. Once that's taken off, you will see the IAF themselves insisting on the FGFA.



Even the Japanese are not sure if the US will allow its exports.



The PCA is expected to get IOC in 2028.



There's no point buying something that doesn't meet requirements. If the F-16 couldn't make the MMRCA shortlist, there was no point going for it anyway. And the MMRCA requirements are not complex to meet.

May be be you have not followed the election trends in India.

The performance of BJP in Gujarat and UP was very bad.

BJP is fast losing in its strong holds in the BIMARU states and they can never make up for their loses in the Hindi belt in other places.

BJP's tally in Gujarat has come down while it lost badly in the UP by-elections after SP-BSP tie up.

Patel, Lingayat, Maratha, Meena, Gujjar, Kapu etc. reservations would further erode and bring down BJP's tally. BJP can never win the race in caste dominated politics.

At best it would be a single largest party with around 180 seats.
