KARACHI: Brig Ali Khan, who is facing a court martial for treason and mutiny, has been charged with masterminding a conspiracy to bomb the Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) during a meeting of formation commanders, the BBC’s Urdu service said on Thursday.

The British Broadcasting Corporation quoted Major Sohail Akbar, a witness for the prosecution, as saying that the brigadier had persuaded a pilot of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to use his F-16 for bombing the GHQ.

Plans for assassinating the president and the prime minister were on the table, too, Major Akbar added.

US forces and a Blackwater office were also on the table, he added.

The officer said he was introduced to Brig Khan by some Hizbul Tahrir men in July 2010. “I know the Hizb members for the past seven years and have been meeting them after that session,” he conceded.

During the 2010 meeting, BBC quoted Major Akbar as recalling, the brigadier claimed that 400 men were enough to “seize power after eliminating the Army chief, the president and the prime minister”.

“I am ready to lead the putsch,” the brigadier asserted, according to Major Akbar.

Brig Khan once even claimed that the plot had the blessings of chief of the 111 Brigade and “a few other generals”, the prosecution witness said.

“I refused to become a part of the plot after realising that it will cause horrendous bloodshed,” the British network quoted Major Akbar as saying. “Hizbul Tahrir regards violence as Haram.”

Thank Heaven's the PA is purging all these extremist nut-heads from its ranks! Imagine what would have happened to the security of Pakistan's nukes if he had succeeded!

. .
Mark my words... pakistan's nukes will in time fall into extremist's hands. Pakistan should be denuclearized asap.

First of all nice of you to post a month old news to start a new thread.

As for so called planed mission of this gentleman with an F-16... these kind of things look good on paper planning or in movies having 50$ budget. :pop:

This is pure lunacy , F-16s can't release payload without authorization from the "mission commander" & ordinance cannot be loaded without a "mission".

In order to bomb a place with the F-16s you need to buy the top brass in the Air force , ie base commanders who could authorize a payload an air craft and free the air craft avionics to release them.

given your countries history of coups and military coups - having many key actors in place is not a stretch of imagination.

A South Asian Security Analyst?
A Nuclear Diplomacy Analyst?
A Policy Think Tank?

On what grounds can you make such tall claims?

With characters like the Ketchup Colonel, Real Estate General and extremists like Sri Kanth Purohit, you guys probably stand a good chance of having your nukes being sold on the black market as well, going by your argument then, denuclearization I say!

Lemme guess:

1. An economy having a 'near-death experience'.

2. A weak and bloated civilian leadership.

3. A war ravaged country.

4. A terrorism torn security scenario.

5. An extremism ridden society with extremists possibly in the security forces as well.

6. A fractious Army already overstretched beyond its capabilities and with a history of coups and infighting.

7. A resurgent Mullah class.

8. A disparaged middle class burdened by incessant inflation, power shortage, gas shortage.

9. Gangwars in political parties.

10. Resurgent insurgency in the biggest province waiting to explode.

...all in all an explosive mix of a country.

You get very sensitive when historical facts are pointed out to you. Turning a blind eye to it does not make you a responsible citizen. You may think you are getting one over the rest of us here. But your countries history with multiple coups by its military is " documented" - Besides last time I checked the man was arrested by your own govt for treason and high crimes. So why get so sensitive when the obvious is pointed out to you?

And yet we still live on! That's the point my friend, we have become impervious to challenges. The Army is a secular institution, there is no way for a fundee to make it to the nukes. Secondly the Nukes are guarded by a separate force altogether. The men from the SRF are put through numerous physicist examinations to bring to light any behavioural recurrence that may be of consequence in the future.

Wasn't Mumtaz Qadri also subjected to similar psycho-analysis?

I was merely replying to Shiv who thinks that the arrest of this one man is a good enough excuse for the denuclearization of Pakistan. Yes, we have had coups but none of the Generals has been a crackpot who would hand nukes to terrorists so that they can wreak havoc with them. If you think that by watching Agent Vinod, all of a sudden my friend there has a grasp of the inner workings of the Pakistani intelligence and military hierarchy, then he needs help.......and fast!

SRF and Police, hell of a difference.
That's like comparing the SSG with paintball junkies, they both hold guns but are leagues apart.
