Achieved more than 80Ktn which is not bad achievement in this field. India should Get TOT from Russia. This will benefit India in long term.

I think that the problem lies with Metallurgy. We have some magnesium alloy which can be used upto 1450 degree temperature where US has a matallurgy from which the engine parts operating at 1600 degree centigrade can be manufactured. That allow their engine to operate at much higher compression ratio of 30:1 against 22 to 24 of ours so they are successful in making high power engine from small size and weight.

Jaguar all variants/models were 70-75% built in India.

HAL has manufactured the HAL Ajeet, HAL Marut.

And add to that the 5 crashed MKI.

These are only fighter planes.

If you start adding trainers, helicopters, transports the number of HAL manufactured/license produced/assembled aircrafts that have crashed are far more than post ww2 air-to-air combat losses.

HAL really is a lethal organization. For its customers. Its the greatest ally of our foes. Perhaps Pakistan ought to fund HAL.

The problem is in the core of the engine. Need better materials and design. The kaveri maxed out, so not much more can be done with it.
The snecma solution was to use the m88 core, but that was not feasible. So only solution is to start again.

Problem is we lack the tech to produce the engine and yet DRDO-GTRE will claim we can produce an engine of 100kn+ thrust. Also dry thrust the thing that only thing that matters was pathetic in Kaveri.

Focus on building a small engine for UAV. 20n. Unlikely to succeed as it will have to be a new design. Size will be miniature compared to Kaveri which itself is the size of a UAV. Design-Design validation-tech demonstarator-prototypes-(Su-30MKI being retired at this point)-engine tested on test bed-engine not doing good-HAL test bed crashed-(PAK-FA retired)-story goes on and at some point this UAV engine will be cancelled.

To give you a clue 880 odd Mig-21 were manufactured by HAL.

A confidential figure between 2/3rd-3/4th are said to have crashed/written off. Should give you a good head start.

Around 650 were made-now I am waiting for statistics on crashes due to manufacturing defects.

Its more of a genocide really. How many personnel have died? 2000? 3000? Wish IAF release the reports but this would be classified to Henderson-Brooks level classification by GOI
