#BreakingNews DRDO to abandon Kaveri project.

not good, we should keep working on an indigenous engine. this just on the heels of FDI relaxation in defence, why like this ?

.
Call for auction, take some bids, and sell the tech. to Tata or Mahindra, and try to cover some tax payers money.

Exactly !!!! Sell the tech at whatever price they get for it.

Sell it to pakistan or South Africa or anyone who can build on our efforts. Its a reasonably good engine which is a copy of the 404.

.
WTF .......... why don't they transfer the technology and development to a private compay with a clear road map, target and budget ?

Instead of abandoning Kaveri, they should abandon GTRE. This is totally screwed up.

And which private company in India have that capability?
We dont have any Pratt and Whitney or Rolls Royce. Soknow our limitations.

Capability can be built with money and time. That is the whole point of funding R&D. So learn common sense.

.
yahoo new engine will made on new design specification

.
i thought Kaveri was still going to be used in UAVs as per many posters here
That does not come under Kaveri project. There are two Kaveri projects i.e. K9+ and k10.K9+ has been(or will be as the article suggests)abandoned.

Unfortunatately we have much shortage in both of these things.
On topic:I will say that was a practical decision.IAF was aimed for 90 to 95 KN thrust engine .Kaveri ended up in 80-85 KN.
In fact it was for LCA.Now LCA can be more cost effective due to GE 414 and being it was not a high tech project this is indeed a practical decision.
Now they should realise their mistake and aimed for a next gen engine applicable for AMCA. @sancho

.
How can they be successful this time, if they were unsuccessful last time. It defies all logic. What madness is this.
Most probably because they are having problems in integrating K9 in any twin engine aircraft because of dimensions and other issues for certification. So devlopment of next generation engine with new dimensions seems to be the most logical choice. This is a good decision by GTRE.

that is a good start for india considering her 1st attempt...
why not simply used it on lca & improve it as it goes??
is that due to low twr?

Manohar Parrikar is proving to be the best defence minister ever.

He understands indigenous projects are a danger to national security and will take the necessary steps to stop this criminal wastage of taxpayers money.

Rafale deal should be signed soon and the mythical tejas mk2 scrapped.

Let rebuild the armed forces enough bullshit has gone on. After all HAL has killed more IAF personnel than PAF can even dream about.
HAL through their miraculous assembly skills has brought down the same number of planes lost post ww2 in combat.
