BREAKING: Senior bureaucrat Rajiv Mehrishi will be new home secretary, LC Goyal resigns

Hounding Teesta is signal to bureaucracy ? Shunting out a cadre because he refuses to tow govt line of crushing dissent is signal to beurocracy ? Wah re wah a great day for indian democracy indeed , guess we are back in 71 emergency days only ministry of truth remains

Buddy Teesta is very competent to defend herself in courts as she has pretty good experience of spending her times in courts. Don't assume things. Was someone raided by CBI for the first time in India ?? What a canard you guys develope.

And neither has been a bureaucrat shunted out for the first time in democratic Indian non-emergency history. Don't loose your sleep over these futile issues. Just focus on the BJP's delivery upon their promises . Or you may choose to hate it anyway. Haters gona hate.

.
Oh Bhai, you are making a lot of assumptions, I am stating for record that if Govt outed HS for incompetence/corruption then Good Govt, if he was outed for any other reason then Bad Govt!

Ok?

P.S. I am not a Sanghi or BJP Bhakt, I don't think I am eligible :(

Good Points, I agree with all of them but the last one about letting incompetent (fat to be trimmed) people retire and use their services in advisory capacity. They should be fired
I never said hire all retirees as advisors. Its extremely difficult to call a bureaucrat incompetent for the reasons they are actually not, at least if we see their tough selection process & training. They are just not allowed to function by politicians or vested interests. And if views of a minister differs from his secretary then the secretary must be given some other portfolio and not shown the door.
I dont know what transpired the unceremonious exits of foreign and home secretaries but the wrong messages have gone to the people and bureaucrats. Its better to be more transparent.

PS: I never called you a sanghi or BJP bhakt nor I feel there is anything wrong being one as long as our nation and constitution is respected and core values are not compromised.

. .
Any classified information can not be leaked and if done its punishable by law.

WRONG. Its punishable by law only if it an be proved.

If Goyal was a political appoinment then so is Mehershi. whats the difference. The same congress had appointed RK Singh as home secretary and soon after his retirement he joined BJP and became a LS MP. So much for being gandhi loyalist.

Difference is Govt. lost trust on Goyal.

The new govt. always has the right to transfer bureaucrats and could have handled bureaucracy more sensitively.

Not Necessary. Its time the Bureaucracy stop playing games and strengthen the political leadership rather than weaken it.

Both foreign and home secretaries were appointed by giving extension on the last day of the retirement. Such senior and sensitive positions should be handled with maturity. If fat has to be trimmed its better to let people retire and use their services in advisory capacity.

Its maturity to send strong signals to the Bureaucracy so that the next time they think twice before playing oversmart. So far the political leadership did not have enough to strength to act decisively, not any more and that message has gone out loud and clear.

If the govt. wants Teesta to face the law, then she must face the law. If she is innocent the courts will find her so and free her.

The job of the cadre is to EXECUTE the govt. will, it they can't or won't, then its time for them to GO.

That comment was not meant for you but the person quoted. Rest of your post is again well put.

@Makaramarma - If govt. lost trust in Goyal then the reasons should be made public as to what caused loss of trust. Its not expected from a bureaucrat to act spinelessly. I recall what happenned in april 1971. Indira Gandhi called the Army Chief Sam Maneckshaw and apprised him of her intentions for east pakistan. General told the Prime Minister by refering to her as "Sweetie" that he wont hurry up and wait until the monsoon comes and goes as east pakistan was a low land mostly submerged in the waters of Ganga and Brahmaputra during the rains. The iron lady like Indira Gandhi respected her General and waited for many months to see her plans converted into action. She could have very well fired him by blaming him incompetent and coward as he was not fitting into her designs. But she was mature unlike her immature son Rajiv Gandhi who fired the then foreign secretary on a flimsy ground.

I just hope our government is able to see whats right and whats not.

Not required by law, or propriety. Not every govt. action is open to immediate public scrutiny. It can be made public after 20-40 years.

Goyal did not call Modi sweety, he refused to follow directives and played politics and lost the truth and faith of the elected representative and head of govt. If THAT does not get you Fired, I don't know what will.

I just hope our government is able to see whats right and whats not.

So far, there is no reason to believe otherwise.

The context is similar.
Navy Chief Admiral Vishnu Bhagawat was fired by previous NDA government and the nation till date does not know why?

He was opposed to appointment of his new vice-admiral hence Government had to choose between one. Future vs Past and Government took it' decision.

Stint as CM is not a guarantee for maturity.
I only compared Rajiv with Indira. You are free to compare anyone with anyone.

No you compared Rajeev with Modi. As both shunted out secreties of important ministry. It only shows your intellectual dishonesty.

Yes , thank God it's free world.

If continuous three stints as CM of progressive state can't grantee of maturity then even CEOs of Reliance or Microsoft won't be seen as inspiration for maturity.

Admiral Vishnu Bhagawat incident is quite well known. It was a much publicised row between the government and the admiral after the Cabinet appointments committee appointed Vice-Admiral Harinder Singh as deputy chief of the naval staff.

Refusing to accept the Cabinet order, Admiral Bhagwat went public with his opposition to the government's decision.

He was consequently fired.
