PM @YR_Gillani received call from ambassador of Afghanistan. His son @haidergilani has been recovered in a successful operation.Alhamdulillah

Former premier Gilani received a call from the ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan, informing him that Haider Gilani was recovered in a successful operation in Afghanistan, said the PPP chairman.

Ali Haider, a son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and a candidate for the Punjab Assembly, was kidnapped by gunmen in Multan on May 9, 2013.

Ali Haider was kidnapped when he was leaving a street corner meeting outside the house of a supporter at Matti Tal Road in Multan’s Farrukh Town.

His two associates were killed in the process.

At the time of the abduction, Ali Haider was contesting for the general election from PPP-200 constituency in Multan.

His family is one of the most powerful in the central town of Multan and a key clan in the PPP, whose campaign for re-election had been dramatically curtailed by Tehrik-i-Taliban threats at the time.

The news follows the recovery of Shahbaz Taseer, son of slain Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer, who was recovered by security and intelligence forces from Balochistan’s Kuchlak area nearly five years after his abduction in 2011.

Shahbaz was kidnapped from Lahore on Aug 26, 2011, near his company’s head office in Gulberg area. He was driving towards the offices of the First Capital Group off M.M. Alam Road in Gulberg when he was intercepted by the kidnappers.

The abductors who, according to witnesses, used a Prado jeep and a motorcycle, bundled the young Taseer into the four-wheeler and rushed away unimpeded.

No details on the whereabouts of Shahbaz had earlier been made public.

I don't know whether to celebrate this news.
We don't know what he must have been through.........All kinds of torture, fear of death, the thought of not being able to see loved ones again and so much anguish and trauma. And even though his family is corrupt and enjoyed lavish lifestyle while he was going through hell, but humanity dictates we should be happy for him and his family.

ISLAMABAD: Son of ex-prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Ali Haider Gilani, who was abducted three years ago from Multan, has been recovered from Afghanistan's Ghazni province in a joint operation carried out by Afghan and US forces against an 'Al Qaeda affiliated group'.

News of Ali Gilani's recovery was first announced by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and was later confirmed from the Foreign Office.

Gilani is safe and in good health, and arrangements are being made to bring him back to Pakistan. Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, was conveyed the news by the Afghan National Security Adviser.

Former premier Gilani received a call from the ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan, informing him that Haider Gilani was recovered in a successful operation in Afghanistan, said the PPP chairman.

Fiza Batool Gilani, tweeted yesterday praying for her brother's safe return.

Ali Haider was kidnapped by gunmen in Multan on May 9, 2013, days before he was slated to run for the Punjab Assembly.

Ali Haider was kidnapped when he was leaving a street corner meeting outside the house of a supporter at Matti Tal Road in Multan’s Farrukh Town.

His two associates were killed during the kidnapping.

Had this been an ordinary Pakistani, I would have applauded. I know why they put the extra effort to save him specifically.

INMHO if his family hasn't paid the the ransom his recovery is mostly a coincidence. I don't think that the US and Afghans launched this OP just to rescue him. As for a common man not having any value in Pakistan, well that is something we all are exposed to on regular basis...........and it indeed is a shame, this is a country for the influential. After completing my degree i am so getting out of here, even thou i don't enjoy living in UK as well.

ANSF special forces assisted by US forces rescured the son of ex PM of Pakistan in Ghanzi province.
The son of the ex PM was kidnapped in Pakistan a few years ago.

Moral of the story :

- Ghazni = A major center of the good Taliban, where they easily know the movements of anyone and everyone, probably the PM's son was held in one of their camps.

- ANSF : Labeled by some in Pakistan as the bad guys, rescues the PM's son returning him back to Pakistan with respect. They could have lost some of the brave soldiers in this operation.

Now those advocating for the return of the Talis to Afghanistan should do the math.

If you think you're doing us any favors think again.

How about you help Pakistan by taking back the Afghan refugees to your country?

Quite a zealous rhetoric about Afghans being the "Good Guys" do you also mind explaining 'How he wound up in Afghanistan in first place?'. It's not a coincidence that him and the son of another bigshot have been recovered back to back and both cases have Afghan connection plus high ransom demands.
