11 Dallas Police officers shot, 4 has been killed.

.
2 snipers from the news, but from the video it sounded like an semi automatic.

.
Its high time they ban guns in USA. Atleast carrying/transporting weapons must be severely controlled.

. . .
The shooting videos of the two black men killed by the police are very disturbing , one man was shot with a four year old kid in the back seat of the car another shot point blank in the chest and as he breathed his last the police just strolled about as if nothing happened

DALLAS: Two snipers opened fire on police officers during protests against police brutality in Dallas on Thursday night, initially killing three officers and injuring seven others and a civilian, the police chief said.

A fourth police officer was killed and two suspected snipers were in custody later in the night after the protest. A fifth police officer died during a shootout with snipers.

“It has been a devastating night. We are sad to report a fifth officer has died,” the Dallas Police Department wrote on Twitter.

One suspect had turned himself in and another who was in a shootout with SWAT officers was also in custody, the Dallas Police Department tweeted.

A statement from Dallas Police Chief David Brown released by a city spokeswoman said "it appears that two snipers shot ten police officers from elevated positions during the protest/rally."

The gunfire broke out around 8:45pm local time on Thursday while hundreds of people were gathered to protest fatal police shootings this week in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and suburban St. Paul, Minnesota.

Brown's earlier statement said three officers were dead, two were in surgery and three were in critical condition. "An intensive search" for suspects was underway, it said.

The protesters had gathered after a Minnesota officer on Wednesday fatally shot Philando Castile while he was in a car with a woman and a child in a St. Paul suburb. The aftermath of the shooting was purportedly livestreamed in a widely shared Facebook video.

A day earlier, Alton Sterling was shot in Louisiana after being pinned to the pavement by two white officers. That, too, was captured on a cellphone video. Video footage from the scene showed that protesters were marching along a street in downtown, about half a mile from City Hall, when the shots erupted and the crowd scattered, seeking cover.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott released a statement saying he has directed the Texas Department of Public Safety director to offer "whatever assistance the City of Dallas needs at this time."

US President Barack Obama, who is attending a NATO summit in Warsaw, has been briefed on the killing of police officers in Dallas during a protest against police shootings of black men.

"The president has been updated on the shooting of police officers in Dallas. He asked his team to keep him updated on the situation as they get additional information," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.

"In times like this we must remember ─ and emphasise ─ the importance of uniting as Americans," Abbott said.

The search for the gunman stretched throughout downtown, an area of hotels, restaurants, businesses and some residential apartments. The scene was chaotic, with helicopters hovering overhead and officers with automatic rifles on the street corners.

"Everyone just started running," Devante Odom, 21, told The Dallas Morning News. "We lost touch with two of our friends just trying to get out of there."

Carlos Harris, who lives downtown told the newspaper that the shooters "were strategic. It was tap tap pause. Tap tap pause."

The gunshots in Dallas came amid protests nationwide over the recent police shootings.

In midtown Manhattan, protesters first gathered in Union Square Park where they chanted "The people united, never be divided!" and "What do we want? Justice. When do we want it? Now!"

A group of protesters then left the park and began marching up Fifth Avenue blocking traffic during the height of rush hour as police scrambled to keep up. Another group headed through Herald Square and Times Square where several arrests were reported.

America is a mess!
If the shooters are blacks with grievances against white police officers, this is not going to bode well for the black community at large. The backlash to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement are going to be so great that not even black celebrities can help.

What if they are white?

Will we start seeing less black guys get gunned down and more whites instead?

I'm thinking not. But I'd defer to you on that.

I know that when it comes to America, %99.999 of foreign people toss their brains out the windows.

What is the most underrated thing that contribute to becoming a civilized society ? Statistics.

Collection of data helps you take snapshots of your society and keep tracks of progress.

You want to lose weight ? You have to take data of what you eat, how much you exercise, and how much you lose.

You want to save gas money ? You have to keep track of how far you drive, how much fuel you use, and how fast you drive. And so on...

So here is one uncomfortable statistic for you...

4. Black and Hispanic police officers are more likely to fire a gun at blacks than white officers. This is according to a Department of Justice report in 2015 about the Philadelphia Police Department, and is further confirmed that by a study conducted University of Pennsylvania criminologist Gary Ridgeway in 2015 that determined black cops were 3.3 times more likely to fire a gun than other cops at a crime scene.

Statistics are meaningless when we "foreigners" see only white cops beating down on and killing black males.

Is it media sensationalism? I do not know.

The Indian grandpa whose neck was broken by cops using excessive (and unnecessary) force? White cops.

@gambit

Please do not think I am simply beating down on you, seeing as this is the second time we are interacting, and coincidentally on a negative story concerning your country.

You will admit that increasing "siege mentality" and "roid rage" coupled with what many are calling the "militarization of the police force" are issues many Americans are speaking about today in their day to day lives.

Just requesting that out here on an international forum, you allow us into the discussion as well, and not simply dismiss us as hostile America-baiting "foreigners" ....
