Boycotting our goods will damage ties, China’s state media warns India

We can't control visibility of Made in China but we can control visibility of Made in India...

Some traders use halal symbol to identify their products to their customers

We need a symbol like halal so that customers can easily identify Made in India product.... Friendly country like vietnam can obtain right to this symbol in Indian market.

currently the only way to identify Chinese product is searching for a hidden Made in PRC

Expressing solidarity with the Indian armed forces, Prakasam District Ex-Servicemen Abhivruthi Sangham on Sunday decided to boycott goods from China, which allegedly aided cross-border terrorism from India’s western borders.

The war veterans led by the sangham’s honorary State president Neppalli Nageswara Rao, who had taken part in the 1965 war with Pakistan, urged the people at large to boycott the Chinese goods, including crackers.

The citizens should keep away from goods from Beijing to cripple its economy, said association district president Ch. Sriramurthy.

Licence issued to sellers silent on foreign-made crackers.
With the Deepavali sale of firecrackers all set to pick up in a few days, the question of whether the availability of Chinese fireworks would really be checked remains debatable.

Generally, retailers selling fireworks are supposed to submit their application for temporary licence 20 to 30 days before the festival to the licensing authority. The applications would then be forwarded to the police and fire service and local revenue authorities for inspection of the site and issuance of No Objection Certificate.

In all, the processing of an application would take not less than 10 days and hence, the retailer who applies for temporary licence 10 days before the festival or less, puts up his shop with the application acknowledgement receipt, according to official sources.

Meanwhile, a wholesale stockist and retailer at Kancheepuram said that though the possession and sale of fireworks of foreign origin had been declared as illegal and punishable under law a few years ago, certain fireworks containing the hazardous chemical “potassium chlorate” made in foreign countries were sold under Indian brand names during last season.

“The officials did inspect the shops but were convinced after the sellers told them that those products containing Chinese or Thai letters were manufactured in Indian fireworks factories for export four to five years ago,” he explained.

Meanwhile, according to official sources, the Fire Service Department, one of the agencies involved in the issuance of permanent/temporary licences for sale of fireworks, has started obtaining a written assurance from the firecracker sellers that they would not sell China-made fireworks at their outlets, before issuing the NOC.

Not in the licence

However, a condition banning the sale of foreign-made fireworks did not figure in the licence issued after collecting the NOCs from police, fire services and other agencies involved in the processing of permanent/temporary fireworks licence, sources added.

On the other hand, an oral instruction was being given to the sellers to put up banners announcing that China-made fireworks were not available for sale, prominently at the outlets.

A campaign to boycott Chinese goods in India due to differences over India's bid for NSG membership and UN ban on JeM chief Masood Azhar will not have much "political effect" and will fail to "fundamentally change the bilateral trade ties, state-run Chinese media said today.

Quoting Indian media reports, an article in the state-run Global Times said that "some politicians and citizens in India have recently launched campaigns to boycott Chinese products".

"They blame China for India's failure to enter the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), and for Beijing blocking India's UN bid on sanctioning a commander in Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based military group.

"Beijing and New Delhi are currently negotiating about these two issues and it is believed that mutual understanding will be reached eventually," said the article written by Liu Xiaoxue, an associate research fellow at the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said.

India is seeking a UN ban on Azhar, chief of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) which has been blamed for the January 2 Pathankot attack.

Scuttling India's move, China has recently put a second technical hold on Azhar's UN ban issue.

Underlining that Sino-Indian relationship has always been "haunted" by border disputes and China's ties with Pakistan, the article, said, "However, the two sides have long realised that setting aside divergences is beneficial for both sides' overall development than being hostile to each other."

"...A boycott of Chinese goods will not only result in little of the political effect that people who initiated the movement would like to see, but will also fail to fundamentally change India's current trade ties with China. In the end, it will be nothing more than a tiny incident," it said.

Referring to improvement in India-China political ties since the visit of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1988, the daily said economic and trade ties have also been boosted following which China has become India's largest trading partner since 2013.

"Of course, apart from political issues, some economic factors have also disrupted Sino-Indian trade development. Unresolved problems between the two nations sometimes influence their political mutual trust and have led to the non-tariff barriers in India against Chinese capital and products, such as security checks in major projects in the fields of defence, telecommunications, Internet and transportation," it said.

On the growing trade deficit, the daily said, "Economically, India has unbalanced trade ties with China. The increasing trade deficit with China has been irritating New Delhi. India's trade deficit with China jumped to USD 51.45 billion in 2015."

"As a country with a long-term account deficit which faces balance of payments problems, India is always vigilant against trade deficits. Chinese products can hence be easily turned into the target of India's anti-dumping sanctions," it said.

"After Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi started promoting the slogan 'Make in India', some of the country's media and citizens have tended to hype up the substantial quantities of made-in-China balloons, coloured lanterns and ribbons that always appear in the nation's Hindu spring festival by asking, 'should our valuable foreign currency be wasted on these products?' or 'Are Indian manufacturing industries too backward to produce those goods?" it said.

"However, for consumers, attractive goods with a reasonable price are naturally their first option. Moreover, the merchandise, which is mentioned by Indian media all the time, is only a small part of Chinese exports to India," the daily said.

"Being a major exporter of high-tech goods, today's China mainly exports high-tech products to India, including electrical equipment, telecommunications equipment, train locomotives, computers and telephones. These are all necessary for India's economic development and its people's everyday lives," it said.

"Will Indian people answer the call of boycott? How long can the campaign last? What specific influence will it have on Sino-Indian trade relations? Even the Indian media pushing for a ban does not have the answers," the daily said.

"It is believed that after this round of patriotic passion, businessmen and consumers in India will make a rational choice," it said.

Kolkata: To protest against China's alleged support to Pakistan, the Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Bengal unit has initiated a campaign against the use of Chinese products in the upcoming Diwali festival.

The VHP is using social media forums, like Facebook, Twitter, and Whatsapp, and by word of mouth to "spread the message of boycotting Chinese goods".

The message reads "Nation First- Boycott goods by China as it is supporting Pakistan."

"Pakistan is a terror state and China has stood in its support. China has vetoed the move against Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar at the UN.

During this festive season, when Chinese goods are traded in plenty, we are calling everyone to boycott these goods.

China will survive on our economy by selling their below standard products and will conspire against India.

This duplicity must end," VHP state president Sachindranath Singha told PTI.

Apart from VHP cadre in Bengal, members of other right-wing organizations, like Bajrang Dal, Dharma Jagran Manch, Durga Bahini and Go Seva Dal also supported the ban.

"We will try and create awareness that if Indian goods are used regularly, it will, in the long run, generate employment for Indians and will be good for the Indian economy," Singha said.

The VHP and other right-wing outfits are promoting earthen pots instead of the Chinese products.

This boycott is sadly a failure from the start my indian friends, these days every single thing that has worth is made in China.
Boycotting Chinese products is like choosing to go back to living in stone age.

Not really because we are seeing this even in BRICS.

Accusing India, Brazil and South of Africa "sending signals of trade protectionism", it said the three "often seek to launch anti-dumping probes against China".

"India and Brazil have been among the countries that have implemented the biggest number of protectionist measures against China," it said.

"India has always been a target for the US to contain BRICS members within the club of emerging powers. By launching the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership and Trade in Services Agreement, the US aims to isolate BRICS countries, putting more pressure on developing countries,"

Bihar panchayat calls for boycott of Chinese goods this Deepavali

Abhay Kumar, PATNA, Oct 20, 2016, DHNS:

A woman sarpanch here not only asked residents to boycott Chinese goods during Deepavali and Chhath festivals, but also threatened punitive action if the diktat is not followed.

The move comes in the wake of anger brewing against China, which sided with Pakistan in the aftermath of India’s surgical strike along the LoC following the Uri terror attack last month.

“The idea to boycott Chinese goods during the festivals is simply to teach China a lesson for backing Pakistan at a time when the neighbouring country has been virtually isolated for exporting terror,” said Gudia Devi, sarpanch of Obra panchayat, some 250 km from here. The sarpanch, in her mid-30s, deals with legal matters in the three-tier panchayat system. She has administered an oath to around 200 people not to use Chinese goods during Deepavali and Chhath. The sale of electronic lights, diyas and toys is quite high during the festive season.

“Someone has to take an initiative. Given the kind of support China extended to Pakistan, all Indians should join hands to boycott Chinese goods. If we can make a small beginning from Obra, I am sure such a boycott will have a cascading effect on the Chinese economy. We have, therefore, decided to impose penalty on all those who do not follow the panchayat order,” said Gudia.

But local businessmen, who procured Chinese items for sale, are not impressed with the boycott call. They fear huge losses during the festive month. “We may incur huge losses if the panchayat directive is followed,” said Sanjay, a local trader.
