Black 13-year-old shot dead by Ohio police after $10 theft

The old Modus Operandi of criminals was to ditch the weapon before the police got to you so you couldn't be charged with anything severe.

The new MO seems to be to confront the police with a drawn weapon and when they blow you away you can get some sympathy and calls of racism.

In a way, I prefer the new MO. It definitely gets the criminals off the streets and into jail (or the morgue). The old MO had them out in a few weeks or months (or a day). The justice system will take care of the rest. The officers must do their jobs fairly in keeping all of us safe and secure, with our support.

Well it influences the demographics and reason for conviction of the prison population.

The crime characteristics in the society determine the demographics in the jails. Do no crime and do no jail go hand in hand, as well as the reverse.

When a child is shot and killed because of $10 robbery it sad indictment of wider society. I would have probably done exactly what the police officer concerned did but that does not detract from the fundamentals.

Why a child or average citizens have access to guns, are prepared to use them so readily, precipitating the police to react with extreme prejudice, as self preservation reflex. It suggests there is something rotten within the heart of that society.

Just like in Pakistani society ails in some many ways and we see the symptoms of the regularly in United States there is also a affliction within it's core values. Some serious introspection is required - this is not expected of a country that leads the world in so many ways.

My own feeling is [anecdotal] that US is more racist society than UK notwithstanding the fact that it elected a black Presdent.

@Mugwop Your thoughts please?

Incidents like these have been happening in america for a long time and guns have become the necessity of everyone.
I am not a fan of some UK policies but they are doing a terrific job in curbing racism as compared to America.

It's alive and kicking but everything in life is relative. We complain but when we look around we feel pretty smug about being in UK.

Now that's not called for. Like what policies?

You know less guns is the solution. Not more guns. It is no brainer. Only lawless countries would want more guns. Somalia is prime example of zero gun control. There is another part not too far from my ancestral village but I won't go into that suffice to say guns means more deaths. Simple as that.

Have you ever lived in UK and/or USA at all? Both are open and progressive, but contrary to your impression, USA is far better at curbing racism than UK, without a doubt.

If you know that you would have done the exact same thing as the officers did, then you are on no position to criticize US.

Please...I was stationed in the UK for three yrs. I can bring up plenty of personal anecdotes on how racist Brits have been, can be, and still are.

Try to do some basic research before you post.

A country cannot advance unless it employs one of the most basic tools of civilization: statistics.

How much harvested ? Who travels where ? What is the province's birth rate ? And so on.

You think we do not know how to apply statistics to crime in general and gun violence in particular in America ?

I am not trying to offend anyone here but their policy for non-eu students working is kinda harsh.

The number of guns are more likely to increase in America not decrease. All this ban on guns by obama is propaganda to boost more sales. The truth is obama is the best friend nra has got.

I have visited uk but I live in NY and I have also lived in maryland and Va.
Correct me if I am wrong but how is America better at curbing racism compared to the uk?

I have lived in both countries, so I speak with some experience too.

The basic similarity between the two is equality in law, but the key difference arises from the fact that UK has a much longer history as being a relatively homogeneous population compared to the diversity of immigration in USA, that leads to a very different social outlook and behaviors. In USA, almost everybody (save for the native Americans) is an immigrant, whereas that is not the case in UK.

Having said that, the difference between the two is not all that much, compared to mainland Europe, or even to the world in general. Canada is perhaps better than both UK and USA, while Australia is probably worse than both.

Total death rates per 100,000 - Guns

US 10.54
UK 0.23

Not good at maths, you know failing British education system. But does US have 45 times more deaths then United Kingdom? Wonder why?

Did I say anything about the UK ? If not, then any comparison is pointless. I was talking about the stupidity of this comment...

If what you simplistically said is true, then the rates of gun related crimes and gun used suicides should have matching increase in gun ownership. But that is not true according to overwhelming statistic studies done by the US government, universities, and assorted research groups. It has been the opposite: a decline.

Anti-gun groups had to resorted to twisting and cherry picking statistic numbers to continue their arguments.

Yours is a typical example of whenever it comes to the US, critical thinking and basic research goes down the toilet.
