Black 13-year-old shot dead by Ohio police after $10 theft

That doesn't make any sense, no gun is going to stop a bullet if its all ready been fired, we are talking about using a taser to disarm a 13 year old. A Police officer's training should be that he can disarm a damn kid without killing him.

The police officer responded correctly in this case. How was he to know the age of the fleeing suspect in a dark alley pointing a gun at him? He responded quickly, as he was trained to do. Second guessing him here is totally dishonest.

To each their own, 13 year old's life gone, who cares. Black youths would continue to be hunted down in the USA like its the colonial times.

Yes, his family must explain how a 13 year old was robbing stores and carrying guns in dark alleys, in the first place.

I agree and so should the society. However I still don't agree that he should have been killed.

It is easy to second guess after the fact. The family is primarily responsible for this kid as the basic building block of a society. Let us start there.

Agree with your statement however I still don't think he should have been killed.

Sir, the police had no way of knowing the age of the person pointing a gun at them at the time of the incident.

When it comes to the US, the standard is PERFECTION.

Our democracy is supposed to be perfect. No corruption. No flawed candidates. One hundred percent voter participation.

Our military is supposed to be perfect. No flawed weapons. No flawed members. No waste, fraud, and abuse in the system.

And the list goes on...

No different for our police forces. Officers are supposed to be mind readers, have X-ray vision, fast as greased lightning, martial artists better than Bruce Lee, diplomats par excellence, PhD counselors, F1 formula drivers, and shooters like in the movie Wanted.

The effect of watching too many Clint Eastwood and Chuck Norris movies? :D

They just released a pic from another recent shooting

Of course before the pic this was the story

"Melina Abdullah, a Black Lives Matter activist, spoke to media and onlookers near the scene. She went so far as to tell television reporters, “This is an 18-year-old boy. This is somebody’s son. This is somebody’s friend. This is somebody’s brother and you killed him. I don’t care what your story is. I believe the community, I don’t believe the lying police.”

which may not be all the kid's fault, but he paid the price for his criminal actions.
When a child is shot and killed because of $10 robbery it sad indictment of wider society. I would have probably done exactly what the police officer concerned did but that does not detract from the fundamentals.

Why a child or average citizens have access to guns, are prepared to use them so readily, precipitating the police to react with extreme prejudice, as self preservation reflex. It suggests there is something rotten within the heart of that society.

Just like in Pakistani society ails in some many ways and we see the symptoms of the regularly in United States there is also a affliction within it's core values. Some serious introspection is required - this is not expected of a country that leads the world in so many ways.

My own feeling is [anecdotal] that US is more racist society than UK notwithstanding the fact that it elected a black Presdent.

@Mugwop Your thoughts please?

At least one of the recent fatal shootings was done by a black police officer...do we just ignore those?

The real problem is when people think waving a gun around infront of a cop is supposedly a smart idea.

Walking to his Astronaut Training Class, after volunteering at the local Y?

According to BlackLivesMatter he was an astoundingly good citizen. We'll see what crimes he's connected with when the ballistics results come back.

Astounding, yes. 13 (and 18) years old and over-"achieving" already. Where is his family to explain this? After all, the family is the basic building block of the overall society. Let us start there.

The old Modus Operandi of criminals was to ditch the weapon before the police got to you so you couldn't be charged with anything severe.

The new MO seems to be to confront the police with a drawn weapon and when they blow you away you can get some sympathy and calls of racism.
