Within hours of victory, BJP activists restore to violence; attack Masjids in Mangalore

Mangalore: Even though hours had not passed over the win of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and local candidate Nalin Kateel, several activists of the saffronist party restored to violence and in what can be called as a fit of celebration and excitement, attacked two Masjids and damaged them, in two separate places in the Dakshina Kannada districton Friday.
According to sources, a group of saffron activists, under the pretext of celebrating their party's victory, entered the compound of a Masjid in Kambalabettu, Vittla Moodnoor village of Bantwal taluk and damaged the Masjid by pelting stones on it, shattering its glasses while chanting slogans of "Hara-Hara Modi". They also burst crackers in the compound of the Masjid and destroyed a stage built to host religious programmes. The incident occurred at around12:30 PM.
Muhiyuddin Juma Masjid was also attacked on the same day by miscreants who were celebrating BJP's win.
Bantwal DySP Rashmi and policemen visited the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. A case has been registered against nine people at Vittla police station in connection with the incident. Local residents identified few of the accused as Ramdas, Sunith, Ganesh, Gangadhar, Nandakumar, Harish, Vasant, Karunakar, Jagadish.
In another incident, another group of miscreants, believed to be BJP activist, reportedly pelted stones at a Masjid in Suralpady near Kaikamba under the limits of Bajpe police station.
