This is a Thread i found on a neutral website the other day and i was very keen to share with you all.

I have posted in this section only because it discusses both JF17 & F16 detection range versis the lastest indian fighters.

THE RESULTS ARE SURPRISING to me

" To the mods if they feel this belongs elsewhere please feel free to move"

A neutral website ???

This article has been hosted or posted on this: satish.tk

Rest of all the articles can clearly tell who hosts this website.

Its not neutral.

Plus, as far as my memory goes, this article has been posted before, discussed and then went into back pages, as its a very old article.

Another piece of art by none other then Storm Force.

MKI uses composites heavily. So its RCS should be way less than they mentioned.
As the article also points, PAF is looking for RC-400, a foreign, less capable radar(according to spec) than currently KLJ radar on JF17, gives a clear doubt over the actual performance of KLJ radar far less than mentioned in the spec.

Uncle we bought KLJ because it was superior to RC-400 radar, now we are looking for AESA for JF-17, and we will get it from either France or China and may be sweden too.

I think a comparison to be taken just for a sample size of south Asia is very small. Let's face it; only India and Pakistan possess any credible air power in the region and that means a sample size down to 2 or possibly 2 countries.

In order to be more fair in assessment, entire Asia should be taken into context which would include Japan, China, India, Pakistan, South Korea, Singapore, Burma, Thailand, Vietnam (*Cambodia and Laos are too small to be considered air powers*), Malaysia and Indonesia.

What in your opinion is neutral then? .tk is not Indian. Anything that is considered biased has to have a base in homeland for which it is speaking in favour. If this was from Delhi's strategic circles, it is called biased. But since it is from another country, there's no clear cut definition for biased that can be applied here.

American/European/Russian/Israel articles that speak similarly in strategic contexts are blamed as "turning to Indian side", combined which accounts for around 30 countries.

Then what is unbiased according to you?

Guys let them celebrate, let them under estimate the low RCS of JF-17, its better for us if they think RCS of JF-17 is higher then F-16, bcoz during war, they will never know !

huh..Please get ur fact correct. You can ask for more knowledgeable members from your country. Currently PAF is looking for RC-400 from France for their blk2 configuration. But the whole deal is on hold now.

So, even if we are going after RC-400, do you think it will be having the same old specifications or something new ???

APG-66 has different variants with more and more better performance over the older variants.

Same case with APG-68, different variants with different specifications.

Similarly, if we are going after RC-400, it doesn't means whatever variant we will get would be inferior to KLJ-7 or its specifications would be as the one which were told when the radar was made. Improved variant of RC-400 may be the one which we may be interested in.

well you should have read the whole post and understood it before jumping to your guns. I am well aware that .tk is not an evidence of biased link, but read what's written before it, and if you had carefully read my post, i did said, look out for the rest of the articles on that page, which anyone with common sense can clearly see and sense to be a biased webpage. So hope, if you use common sense and see the JF-17 thunder or blunder and other articles, you can see, on which side the author or poster of the forum is tilting its opinion.

And as for your other comments, its not if its from America, Europe or whatever, but majority of time, its the author of the article who writes with a biased approach in his mind. And for that there are different reasons, which if i talk about, will derail the thread.

So thanks for your concern, but next time, read the whole post and by using common sense read the whole source page and then decide is it neutral or not.

Yes that's what exactly I meant. When PAF is going for a foreign radar for improved performance, where you have to depend upon France for that in future also, you can assume that its way better than current one. That does mean that actual KLJ radar perform way bellow, what written in the specification.

The rest is yours or my guess.

The only important thing to understand from this article is that all modern fighters have pretty much same capabilities and it again comes down to tactics training and use of the other assets in conjunction with fighter jets that will determine the outcome of the war.
Though Mig 29-K which Indian Navy has ordered may have an advantage of around 15 Km and Su-30 MKI an advantage of 2 Km but these advantages in a practical scenario will be of no great significance.

So finally the fan boy claims that space age SU-30 MKI will shoot JF-17 and F-16 before they are able to see the SU-30 MKI bite the dust.

Radar (Su-30Mki)

The forward facing NIIP N011M Bars (Panther) is a powerful integrated passive electronically scanned array radar. The N011M is a digital multi-mode dual frequency band radar.[38] The N011M can function in air-to-air and air-to-land/sea mode simultaneously while being tied into a high-precision laser-inertial or GPS navigation system. It is equipped with a modern digital weapons control system as well as anti-jamming features. N011M has a 350 km search range and a maximum 200 km tracking range, and 60 km in the rear hemisphere.[39] The radar can track 15 air targets and engage 4 simultaneously.[39] These targets can even include cruise missiles and motionless helicopters. The Su-30MKI can function as a mini-AWACS as a director or command post for other aircraft. The target co-ordinates can be transferred automatically to at least four other aircraft. The radar can detect ground targets such as tanks at 40–50 km.

Laser-optical locator system

OLS-30 laser-optical locator system to include a day and night FLIR capability and is used in conjunction with the helmet mounted sighting system. The OLS-30 is a combined IRST/LR device using a cooled, broader waveband, sensor. Detection range is up to 90 km, whilst the laser ranger is effective to 3.5 km. Targets are displayed on the same LCD display as the radar.:bunny::flame:

you making some sense buddy,if paf going for french, then it mean the performance of KLJ is not up to the mark as simple as that....ELSE WHY THEY WANT TO CHANGE TO ? They not asking for AESA RADAR BUT A MUCH BASIC RADAR ..
