BD-Burma Relations

well you see we had a stand off last year with the Burmese not the Indians. From the looks of it their military overall is more powerful than ours, yes it is it seems at least to me.
Recently their Nasaka drove out our fishermen from our OWN waters and our Coast Guard did nothing("They are shooting so we can't go there").
Nasaka attacks BD fishermen

Like Leon said with such mentality how can you even think of standing up to someone such as India?

Our problems with Myanmar are the same as those with India.Border problems both in land and sea.

HK-47,

I had asked Idune some questions regarding Myanmar issue.I am still waiting for his reply.Let me give him another reminder.

1.How do you plan to solve the maritime boundary dispute with Burma through talks, when the Burmese Generals claimed those territories as theirs and took a hard stance by sending war ships into our territory last November?Do you think negotiation is possible when it will come to oil and gas?

2.What do you think about the recent Burmese reinforcement along the Bangladeshi border? The Burmese are rapidly improving infrastructure, and even building an airbase near Bangladesh.

3.Rohingya refugee, are they going to take these people back or they will remain here draining our economy and be involved in terrorist activities.

This is the second time I am asking this question to him.

In fact this question is for everyone. You can come up with your own solutions. If these problems are solved, then we really don't have any problem with Myanmar.
I am having trouble with the answers to these, hopefully you people will have a better answer.

You sure did not do your research. We had same maritime problem with india as did with Myanmar. Difference was we stood up to Myanmar (during interim govt) and prevailed. But when indian sent their ships to our water, Awami govt did not even protest let alone contesting it in the sea.

And no our problems with Myanmar ARE NOT same. If you think that is so then you are far from being qualified to make any argument on this topic.

I guess the indian ships were there for some research.....and they were not IN ships or boats......but in case of myanmar as hk-47 pointed out the myanmar navy was involved......i have nothing more to say, judge the two cases yourself!

These issues are not be answered in few lines or black and white as most people like to think. Bangladesh can continue its build up but one thing for sure, military confrontation will not bring any result in this case.

There is dispute and there are bigger actors behind the scene acting and instigating parties in order to exploit from confrontational situation.

These parties includes US, India and China. Indian and US goals aligned but their goals directly challenge the Chinese one.

It may seem easier to take US help or I would say bait to confront Myanmar but at the end we would loose on that. China has very eager and profound interest in Myanmar and would not allow any indo-US proxy to win a confrontation.

But if Bangladesh interest aligned with Chinese broader goals in the region then China will be willing to use its leverage and Bangladesh can get maximum out of it.

So, best possible solution BD can seek is to engage Chinese and try to mediate best outcome. With hostile act towards Chinese by interim govt and now by Awami govt Bangladesh is far away from getting any Chinese help at the moment.

Chinese are at better terms with Burma than Bangladesh. As a result we saw Burmese giving them priority for oil and gas over India, despite India's attempt to woo Junta by sending arms to them.

But as we see in the case of Israel, they are going against US demands when it comes to settlement.Even if China back us up,we might see Burmese military leaders not agreeing to give up their claim over our territory.A lot is at stake here, oil and gas.If we fail to come to conclusion,we will lose out.

With current FM,we can hardly expect any hard stance while dealing with Burma. So,we should back our military in case our diplomatic solutions fail, that does not mean we are going for war,but to act as a deterrent.

The same tactic should be followed while dealing with India.

We should also build up troop and improve infrastructure for quick deployment,to counter their troop build up near our border.

No there was research ship backed by Indian Navy ship Jako.

Bangladesh sends warships against 'intrusion' by Indian vessels

A news agency, quoting Foreign Ministry officials, said that one survey vessel backed by two Navy ships intruded for hydrocarbon exploration.

You did not do your research properly as well Idune.
The Indian ships intruded on 26-27 December 2008.Navy ships were sent to confront them and it was also during Caretaker Govt. rule.It was 2 days before election.

B’desh alleges ‘intrusion’ by Indian vessels, sends warships

Saturday , Dec 27, 2008 at 0127 hrs

Bangladesh on Friday despatched two warships to confront what it termed as an “intrusion” by three Indian vessels. It alleged that the Indian ships entered its waters for hydrocarbon exploration in the resource-rich Bay of Bengal. Following a complaint from the Bangladeshi Navy, the government ordered a probe following which “appropriate action” will be taken. “We have already lodged a ship-to-ship protest, while the Indian vessels still remained in our territory,” a Navy official said.

Once again you have long long way to go catching global geo politics that is if you ever reach there. So no need for me to lay out any details other than pointing the obvious pitfalls in your venture.

I don't have any doubt about your intention however would it hurt you to point out the Indian aggression that taking place right now in our soil? This kuffar has hijack our sovereignty with the help of bastard Moin and hereditary dalal la-hasina and awami. Burma isn't our friend but India is our known enemy. I would like to see you create awareness about Indian aggression and it's fascist desire to vanish us to the ground.

I think its time to end all this bickering amongst ourselves. We are all agreed the main threat is India so we can make room for other minor threats like Myanmar. Whether we use the Indian or Myanmar threat as justification we should improve our military capabilities. If we start a military build-up on the basis of a Myanmar threat but India attacks we would still be well prepared. Let us all shake hands and agree that threats to Bangladesh exist and that we must raise our military might to counter it. Whether we fight a war with India or Myanmar our military procurement will be based on items such as anti-tank weapons, SAMS, naval defences and anti-aircraft guns. Once we have our defensive capabilities in place we can go for the big ticket armaments like jets, bombers and tanks. It does not matter whether we are preparing for an Indian attack or an assault from Myanmar provided we are militarily prepared. We should not be wasting time arguing who is the greater threat but should be prepared for any threat.

Agreed! I was wondering where have you been hiding lately.....:D

Then why don't you point the source of your claim. Then there will be no confusion. As far as I could find, that was the last naval intrusion by India.

Thank you very much sire for your understanding. And I completely agree with you.:agree:I was advocating exactly for this thing. We can use the Burmese issue to strengthen our own armed forces. In that way we will be prepared for both Myanmar and India.:)

That's a surprise. Since when did we become your KNOWN enemy?

I would like to see you create awareness about Indian aggression and it's fascist desire to vanish us to the ground.
Sure will await this, please let us also know what aggression have we done so far against your territory? or what steps have we done to make you vanish!

Difference was we stood up to Myanmar (during interim govt) and prevailed.
I think they later withdrew later, the Indians. Please correct me if I am wrong though. And when did the Indians intrude again after the Al was elected into power?

okay some problems involve India too.Like recently the BSF director general said they have Bangladeshis in jails but the Border Guards(yes it's no longer BDR weird yep) director said they could be Rohingyas trying to get inside BD.

And no our problems with Myanmar ARE NOT same. If you think that is so then you are far from being qualified to make any argument on this topic.
oh please educate me a little and I am not being sarcastic with you.
