Making a thread which actually deserves to be in a defence forum.

I get it's better to be safe than sorry...but this is total overkill.

SWAT + RAB would have more than sufficed

Ya well the pre-series negotiations didnt go well. Highly doubt England would have agreed if there was no army involved. Probably also aware of our police's in-competencies. SWAT/RAB, well that would have worked. But I guess BCB didnt take any chances.

Negotiations actually went surprisingly well - there was a very strong sentiment that the English wouldn't tour. They'd simply chill at home and then tour India. After all, Bangladesh isn't a big tour for anyone atm. But, the board did an excellent job of convincing their security analysts that they would be safe and under no danger.

A contingent of SWAT + RAB + Armed Police Battalion would have handled security in a breeze.

This is just a mock. English team and security this is two differences. one is political and another is theoretical. BD is always safe zone for others country. Some violence happened for a short time. That doesn't mean eternal security system broken down. Politically solution is zero. it's theoretically solution.

I'm well aware commandos aren't going to be walking around providing security for the English team 24/7 - for no other reason than...it's not something they're experts at! If anyone was to provide them that sort of security - SSF would have been brought in (for all I know, they might have already provided assistance as consultants).

I just believe stunts like the above are unbecoming...whatever, they've been here for 5 days, so far so good. I think on the field, their gonna kick our butts, but I hope the tour goes off without any incidents.

I said the same thing. One mission can't be protect if the guy is crazy. They are in BD with the full safety, what they deserve.

This fellow's head light should be pointing straight not down , not much use the way it is set , except for a photo opportunity

Look at the third photo and you will see one commando had his light up towards sky. It is adjustable. They don't need it to point straight during daylight, rather it will give out their position by reflection.
