What's new

Bangladeshis are flooding India for Eid shopping

.
Yep, based on religion Calcutta, Murshidabad and Assam were to come to E Pk (BD).
Yes, Calcutta and Murshidabad to east Pakistan, but, then Khulna to west Bengal. So, the two sides would have gotten many enclaves within larger enclaves.

. .
Nope. The same shoe which is 2800 taka in Bangladesh can be bought for half the price in India.

how it can be happened? i always though apparels, shoes and the likes products is much cheaper in Bangladesh considering the massive production you guys had

Traditional and handicrafts cl things are cheaper in India. Western garments are cheap in Bangladesh.

.
Go read some books, Kolkata was never a Muslim Majority area during partition, neither Assam nor Murshidabad.
By the same token as Bengal was divided, Calcutta could also have been divided into two. Without Calcutta east Pakistani land had only one factory, Mohini Textile Mills, whereas west Bengal was the most industrially developed State of India in 1947.

Eid ul Azha is also coming so hopefully BD guys will flood india again to buy cows.

In short Muslim area of the Raj was under developed and Hindu majority areas had industry. Same case with Pak. All the professionals were Hindus who left and only they were left with army and Muslim elites and a large mob of uneducated people

1.Historically it was the labor and money of E Bengal which built Calcutta. In 1947 Partition the city was to come to us. But the Pak leadership, dominated by Karachi mohajirs, traded this with Lahore which was to go to India with the Sikhs. The mohajirs had also feared that if Calcutta came to Pakistan then the capital would be Calcutta.
2. In 1971 Calcutta was a clamorous noisy city with rundown markets and shops. For instance Lytton Htl, owned by the Sindhi gentleman Punyani, was spread over an open barren space with single storied small houses dispersed around. But the location is good for BD shoppers who ind Punyani an amiable gentleman. Punyani targeted BD for marketing, and within a short time Lytton became a 4 star Htl.
3. Same with New Market, AC Market, Garihata, etc. Hindus are thrifty to the extent of being misers - specially Bengali Hindus. It is us who have been pumping in money to the economy of Kolkata.
Well another way to put is the money and labour of Hindus helped build Calcutta, but they moved afrom BD after partition

I dont know. I saw a facebook post where one Bangladeshi who went shopping to Kolkata claimed so keeping the shoe he found in Kolkata shop and one that he bought from Dhaka. I have never been to Kolkata myself.

As someone said before, western style garments are cheaper in BD, but not the traditional ones. But, the thing is our women shoppers want to choose from many different traditional designs and looks. This why they flock to Kolkata. Women everywhere are same. I wonder how do they find their husbands.

Believe it or not, women's dress in Bangladesh have completely changed in the last 30 years.Up to 1990, women of all ages including school, college going girls used to wear Sari only. Now it is worn by only some old women on a regular basis. Now a days Bangladeshi women wear mainly Salwar-Kamiz.So women's current traditional wear in Bangladesh is still less developed than India or Pakistan where Salwar-kamiz type wear is firmly established for a long time.

Men's wear in Bangladesh is cheaper than India, as it is mass produce in local garments factory. Most of which are for export.

if they had lot of money they would be coming to Pakistan to buy quality goods not Indian trash

If only you guys have had good relation with India, and allowed Bangladeshi to use land borders ,surely some of us would love to get our hands on some warda prints , gul ahmad, nishat linen to keep the ladies quiet :p: ..but right now Lahore/Karachi is just too far and expensive for middle class.
