Bangladesh to restore all pre-1965 land routes with India, says Sheikh Hasina

That such a decision could be made by an autocratic and undemocratic government installed in power by New Delhi indicates how flimsy and superficial this pro-India policy really is.

Great news. We should not let petty politics shroud our judgements. Better connectivity is in favour with the region. India is also constructing roads to connect India's North East with Myanmar, Thailand etc. Greater access translates into easier circulation of goods, more trade and economic prosperity.

This region is going to be the next EU like union, only better.

Exactly my thoughts:
  1. India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Indo-China like an EU region.

  2. Increase trade and economic co-operation. Set-up special EZs along the entire way and have a FTA agreement with all countries. Vietnam and Thailand have an excellent electronic manufacturing base that can be used to propel the entire region into a manufacturing hub.
  3. Tourism routes extending from one end to another via highways and waterways much like the
India-Myanmar-Thailand Highway. Only, this time multiple routes and all the way to Ho-Chi Minh City.

  4. Special Permits for the citizens of the region like EU permit cards.
  5. Joint military operations against piracy, military exercises, bases etc
  6. An optional educational board that can be taught throughout the region, University exchange programmes etc
  7. Finally, to top it all, some of the finer things like a governing administrative body regarding policies for the region.

You mean Indian Govt watched "Ek Hasina Thi" and installed Hasina in power and not by Bangladeshis??

The Indians engineered the whole process starting with the 1/11 takeover, right up to the massively rigged 2014 national elections, while overlooking the appalling human rights record of the AL and autocratic tendencies of Hasina.

At-least somebody believes we are capable of planning and executing these things. Thank you!

The fact that India heavily interfered and influenced the last elections, and the fact that it is behind the recent purge in opposition parties

You seem to have no clue what you are talking about. In BD these opposition parties are hardcore rival, they will try to diminish one another by any means when coming to power. It just shows, you dont have any idea about past and meddling in recent cases. Also AL always is the largest vote bank in the country, India has little to do about it.

opposition parties in BD that want decent relations with both Pakistan and especially China, that's enough for me to believe what I believe.

For your knowledge China-BD relation just improved. But reduced with Pakistan because we dont have any strategic gain from relation with Pakistan. It was opposition parties delusion which mistakes they kept on doing. Primarily to give space to extremists so that they can destroy their rival forces.

An illegitimate government should seek to limit making strategic decision without opposition support.

Opposition's duty to is to oppose not help to make strategic decisions.

BAL at maximum command 20-25% support which is not enough.

Source? I thought BAL had at least 40% support in its worse day. Plus 10-12% JP fractions and Mohajot. These are neat support apart from 5% which are independent and wont be part of BNP or BAL.

Begaane ki shaadi mein Abdullah deewana.

I know that client state patronage is the only equation understood by Pakistanis, but that is not the only way to look at things. During the Cold War, while India claimed to be non-Aligned, it was an open secret that we had excellent relations with the Soviets. We were a poor country that could hardly bring anything to the table, and the Soviets did help us quite a bit in setting up industries, defence, etc. And yet, were we a client state of the Soviets? Insofar as our own neighbours were concerned, we had our own policy independent of what the Soviets wanted. Turkey today is a prime example of that. She is a NATO member, but is Turkey a NATO puppet? On many issues in recent years, such as Israel, Kurds, Greece, etc, Turkey follows an independent foreign policy.

You must not think every country to be like Pakistan, really.

Pakistan still hasn't recovered from the epic spanking it received in 1971, butthurt, traumatized comments in pdf is a testimony of that fact

Worst, they now try to pretend that they are happy that the Bangladeshis seceeded, because apparently East Pakistan was a drag on their "Kushhaal Mulk". Except for Punjab and parts of Sindh, West Pakistan used to be, and still is, a barren stump of land. Before '71, they pilfered and looted the East to live in comfort.

When all else fails, they get down to horrible insults like darky, lungi etc. How such a bunch of racists can even exist in the 21st century is a mystery. They are much better suited to be in the Middle East than in the subcontinent. The other countries in this region would be then left in peace to pursue our socio-economic goals.

pakistan and BD have nothing between them . BD is other side of india away from pakistan 2200km. i don't know why some of our guys still give BD importance ? just for sake of india? man leave them alone and lets live in 2015 . BD is free country whatever they want to do let them do it. its non of our business .

impossible to have something like a EU in the sub-continent. First of all the European nations have a common culture and shared religion....There is very little in common between india and Bangladesh apart from the colour of our skin and the liking for cricket. Friendly neighborly relations is the best you can hope, specially when this AL leaders pass away...so keep dreaming because that's as much as it will be.

You serious? We have everything in common, except the religion. An Indian would feel more at home in BD than in SL or Nepal I suppose.

It depends on which Indian your are referring to. East Indian Bengalis, Biharis, Assamese will feel close to Bangladesh than Nepal or Sri Lanka. South Indians will feel close to Sri Lanka. Himachal Pradesh, Darjeling, Uttarakhand people will feel close to Nepal. North West Indians will feel close to Pakistan's Punjab and Sindh. North East Indians will feel close to Burma.
