Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj to ratify border pact with Bangladesh

NEW DELHI: The stage is set for India and Bangladesh to ratify a long-pending Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) during the visit of foreign minister Sushma Swaraj to Bangladesh on June 25. Swaraj's visit is also expected to open up avenues for a broader engagement between the two countries.
Top officials in the government told ET that the government was in favour of not only an early resolution of LBA but also of the Teesta Water Sharing Agreement. In return, the government planned to persuade Bangladesh to grant India a land passage to Northeast through its territory.
"For formalising the LBA, India will ask Bangladesh to open the Tetulia corridor for better connectivity between northeast and rest of India. It will facilitate movement of goods and people to the northeast," a senior government official said on condition of anonymity.
Tetulia is a 4 km corridor in Bangladesh which can reduce the road travel to and from northeast by over 85 km. While India opened the Tinbigha corridor, the Bangladesh to Bangladesh passage, Dhaka has failed to allow passage through Tetulia.
Before coming to power, BJP was vehemently opposed to Parliament ratifying LBA, although UPA introduced a Constitution amendment bill on LBA in the Rajya Sabha just before the winter session came to an end in December last.
The bill aims to redraw the international boundary between India and Bangladesh by exchanging land enclaves and areas of adverse possession along with the population on either side, thus making the highly incongruous and porous Indo-Bangla border more manageable.
India stands to lose about 400 acres to Bangladesh in the process. "The general feeling was that LBA was heavily in favour of Bangladesh. It is in the best interest of both countries to resolve these issues and move on," the officer explained.

see this is right time to short out all international issue......they have to take decision fast at any cost..... who knows future government may be again collision...... and how long you will make decision pending ?

The loss is notional, the land pockets is within BD & should logically be with them alone. I had pointed out that Modi seems both decisive & more importantly, an out of the box thinker on foreign issues (I was surprised both on the invite to Pakistan as well as the early acceptance of US invitation)
Our foreign policies with Bangladesh,Srilanka to be particular over the last few years were slow in response and reactive. Though the government realized the importance of LBA and Teesta deal, it could not afford to materialize them due to "for the sake of" opposition from TMC and BJP in both Bengal and Assam. It realized the burdens of Hasina's governments in Bangladesh but it could not do anything. Modi does not need to think "out of the box" as such. If he sticks to proactive foreign policies and gives importance to the practicalities just as any powerful nations do, we can pull ourselves out of this mess.
LBA and water sharing treaty is indian obligation and have NOTHING to be set as precondition for anything else. Transit on the other hand is not Bangladesh obligation by any stretch of imagination, rather a privilege. india proved itself to existential threat to Bangladesh in every means possible. There is no logical, business or political logic to justify granting india such privilege. Not to mention india wants Bangladesh to pay cost for indian transit. Notion india is doing a favor and in return Bangladesh needs to allow indian transit is utter fraud. Such preposterous indian ploy can only be sold to indian subservient and illegal Awami regime and to indian awami league sleeper cell like following one.

More empty promises........of something that's a non-negotiable right of BD that is long overdue. Teesta/LBA can not be equated with such grand previledges such as transit/corridor , that too for free. 
Not to mention the the teesta/LBA deal is still only on papers. The indo-awami narrative of Indian chanakyans supposedly doing us a favour by agreeing to "yet to be finalised" teesta/LBA deal will only result in more eggs on shameless Hasina's face.
