Bangladesh to get US naval ship as gift

This photo shows how beautiful this boat is. By the way, I understand very much the word "Beam" when it is engineering. But, what is the concept of Beam in a ship and what is its relationship with the length of a ship? Can it be that the Length means the length at water level, and Beam Length means the extension at both sides of the deck when rising from the water level? So, according to my assumption the Length of BNS Osmani at water level is 115m and that at the deck level is (115 + 13) or 128 m. Can any one answer correctly?

As someone pointed out this ship went under complete overhauling in 1990 and it is under overhauling now too. So, I guess its reasonable to say though the ship is of 1972 but it will have a service life of 20 years at least. And there is adequate space and provision to equip this ship with AShM, SAM, torpedoes etc. So, we better gear up the ship with whatever teeth we can. Afterall we dont have many ships presently that can house AShM, SAM's etc.

What about fitting the ship with Bofors???
