Bangladesh rally attracts tens of thousands to demand new elections - BBC News

The military-backed caretaker government of Bangladesh in 2007/8 was the initiative of the USA. The USA wanted to make Dr. Md. Yunus the new PM, but India vehemently protested and pressured the USA to bring Hasina into power.

The active initiative of Pranab Mukherjee established Sheikh Hasina's government in 2008/9. The Indian RAW executed a planned BDR mutiny in 2009 to eliminate the last few anti-India army officers. Since then, Hasina has robbed two elections by stuffing ballots at midnight before election day.

The police are full of ex-Chhatra League goons and Hindus. Also, public administration is controlled by Hindus, and they follow the orders of the Indian Embassy, day in and day out. It is widely believed that the Indian MEA Bangladesh/Nepal desk directly chooses Hasina's cabinets.

In the meantime, Hasina plundered gold reserves, dollar reserves, and public funds mercilessly. Bangladesh's FC reserve will, at most last for a few more months before becoming a new Pakistan.

If it lasts more than a “few months” - what then?

Well I also heard it from someone ( a reasonable person) , but my question is , if it's the fact , why Dr Younus refused the proposal of 1/11 people and advised Fakhruddin to appoint as the head of CTG govt?

Dr. Md. Yunus was a stooge of the USA. His agreeing and disagreeing never mattered at all.

The important point was Indian MEA vehemently opposed his appointment as a PM.

Then Hasina must conduct a free and fair election.

Otherwise, she will push the country into a civil war. Or, there will be a Western sanction.

Oh that's great ! The indian news can serve as a great evidence. I'm saving it. Thanks for posting it!

You don't have to save that if you haven't already known that.

I thought Defence.PK guys were smarter than that of Quora.com and Politics.SE, but I am disappointed.

The Police we see in the video shooting at the protesters all belong to the BAL party and were recruited into the Police Force.

The next govt should find out the identities of these recruits and send them to the dustbin the same as Hasina Bibi and her BAL party.

BD people no more want BAL party rule.

.
@Nergal @Bilal9 Bro, Hasina has already quite old, what do you think what will happen with BD if he passes away ?

Soeharto in the past has groomed his own daughter to replace him

You should be able to answer this question better - Indonesians have been through this already.

Was soehartos autocratic rule good for Indonesia - and how did the country adjust after him?

There are three types of recruits: (1) Hindus from the west Bengal of India, (2) recruits from Gopalganj, and (3) recruits from Chhatra League.

One of the two of her children will take charge. Most probably, her daughter Sayema Wajed, if she is not in Dubai jail already.

If she is in jail, then Sajib Wajed.

Sajib is not good in politics, he is only good at seeking percentages from government contracts like Mr. 10% Zardari.

Soeharto regime is good for Indonesia during his first 15 years term. After that his administration still show good performance but corruption behavior is going up as well. Economic team starts making bad policy and support conglomerates too much. This become the basis of Indonesia economic disaster in 1997-1998. In the policy perspective for example, the relaxation of regulation in term of minimum capital requirement to make bank in Indonesia is one of them, the other is related to economic policy that is not prudent like allowing budget deficit to be quite high in order to push growth.

Many reform has been made after 1998. And dont forget that China starts joining WTO in 2001, the global economy gets huge competitor from China since then. US starts having huge trade deficit, Japan and Thailand are slowing

Indonesia economic growth under democracy is not too bad, around 5 %. Economic policy become prudent like policy to put budget deficit lower than 3 %. State Owned Enterprises are reformed and gradually improve their sophistication in combating corruption within their entity. Our SOE becomes more professional. This is crucial since our banking system is dominated by SOE and banking system is very important in market system economy.

Current NPL (Non Performing Loan) in our banking system is very low that is also due to several new law imposed after we embrace democracy like the limitation of each private banks to finance the business of their owner.

Life is much better than during Soeharto regime. We can see by the car sales every years and it also shows the economy is spread and more balanced then during Soeharto regime.

Huge traffic jams as Indonesia's Eid al-Fitr holiday exodus starts

JAKARTA, April 29 (Reuters) - Tens of millions of Indonesian Muslims are expected to travel back to their hometowns to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in coming days, with traffic jams of up to 10 km (6 miles) already starting to form on some routes out of the capital Jakarta.

The decision to once again allow mass travel home, known locally as "mudik", comes after authorities banned the tradition in the past two years to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the Southeast Asian nation of 270 million people.

If we compare Indonesia vs Turkey, it is clear that Indonesia economy after 1998 has perform better. Indonesia economic peers are emerging economies like Turkey, Mexico, Brazil, India, and China.

China is of course a miracle. India has good growth but has economic inequality that is worse than emerging economies and also much higher budget deficit around 6 % (showing vulnerability).

India needs a humongous budget to plug the extreme poverty gap.

It means, India’s formal sector burdened with excessive taxation.

Which in turn means informal sector keeps growing instead of shrinking.

Large informal sector perpetuates poverty as it doesn’t provide job security or the pay.

Demonetisation was supposed to kill off the informal sector but it has not.

Thanks for the in depth opinion.

I have only one objection, the idea that Indonesia is doing much better after Soeharto does not give enough credit to Soeharto for giving Indonesia sustained growth and infra for decades - which set the stage for a today's democracy.

Soehartos regime took Indonesia from the poverty line to industrialisation. So it's unfair today to say life is better without him.

Actually your comparison with India is perfect - they went the democratic route while you had Soeharto - and just look at the difference.

Regarding Bangladesh, they are following a similar path. Similar growth, similar development, similar accusations - but AL did not kill hundreds of thousands like Soeharto. I think most Asian countries would choose peaceful autocratic rule for a period of it means peace and development.

Hasina is 75 years old, there will be an inevitable move into democracy - but I think BD should be allowed the benefit that Indonesia had for a few more years.
