I do not agree with alchohol and clothing comments.. there are dozens of muslim nations with much more tourists.

Agreed.. Look at Indonesia the world's largest Muslim nation and Malaysia, attracts millions of visitors, Borobudur in Java itself attracts millions of Buddhist visitors among others so being a Muslim nation has nothing to do with it, It's all about embracing your own cultural and natural heritage (Not some dark age bedouin BS) and marketing it correctly

We have four sea beaches (Cox's Bazar, Saint martin, Kuakata and potenga). Except Potenga other sea beaches are blue beaches. Most blue is Saint Martin. bluish green is Kuakata, skyblue is cox's Bazar.

We have 60% of Sunderbans (40% are in India)

We have tea gardens, water falls in Sylhet

We have mountains, lush green, water falls in Chittagong hill tracts

We have a deer island called Nijhum Dweep. It has thousand of deers.

We have famous religious sites for Hindus and Muslims.

All the Muslim countries offer alcohol even some of Gulf countries too in abundance. For us we arere world's lowest per capita wine consuming nation. Alcohol are available only in High class costly restaurants and Diplomatic areas.

The backpackers avoid such areas and as such have to go without alcohol.

Also India is a big factor too. Everything We have are is shared by India. So tourists naturally opt for the one with better diversity

why not easy money.. why work hard? its not as if tourism is going to end suddenly unlike oil or gas.... its an industry that keeps on giving unless you screw things massively...
it gives massive employment to egyptians.. and then there is ancillary cottage industries benefit from it because people want to buy stuff as gift when they travel.

One of the major reasons that tourists do not visit BD is the poor infrastructure.
As the infrastructure develops to a comparable level to rest of S Asia then many more tourists will come.

As already mentioned, tourist potential will always be limited in BD due to structure social customs against alcohol
and clothing.

there can be various locations for that like in dubai... where bikinis are allowed within the hotel area and alcohol is served on select locations.
btw you can buy alcohol in bangladesh if you know the place... basically all major towns in dhaka has em.

South Asia in general is not a major tourists destination.
That'll improve as your country develops.

There is practically zero tourist friendly infrastructure in BD. We have beach where drinking and bikini are banned. You will probably understand why they don't come.

However Visit the thorntree lonelyplanet forum and you will know by reading tourist accounts that we are safer cleaner nation than our neighbors

As long as we dont reach to upper middle income country, the only tourist going to visit who are looking for prostitutes or drugs. So dont need them.

sri lanka is definitely not a middle income country but earns a lot of revenue from tourism. ps bangladeshi prostitutes? yuck!
