There are three stated missions of Ansar&VDP: (1) To assist police in maintaining law and order, (2) To assist Bangladesh Armed Forces in national defence in wartime and (3) To take part in socio-economic development projects

I have just posted the video clip in the Bangladesh Army thread when I saw this post. Thanks for giving importance to the Ansar militias. We all should because these people are certainly braver than the troops formed with the so-called British designated martial people in the vicinity.

It seems they have become better trained now... I think what we need now is including the Ansar and VDP into a comprehensive defence doctrine on how they will be integrated in a wartime scenario and moving forward to the modernization of this force keeping that doctrine in view...

As far as I understand, the military has already taken care of that since the founding of BD. Before, it was a little different. BA compensates with men what it misses in weapons. The Ansar Chief Major General MR Khan was quite enthusiastic in the video on the future roles of his troops.

I think, in peacetime, Ansar will function separately. But, they are, perhaps, being trained to use higher than light weapons. Our armed forces are too tight lipped about weapon purchase and training as well.

Well, we didn't have any comprehensive defence doctrine until 2009 when the BA started formulating one. The Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC) was just formed in 2008. I guess the BA has started to fix its formations based on this new doctrine...

Earlier what we had was a strategy of guerrilla warfare during the time of invasion, based on the experience of 1971. That cannot be termed as a doctrine for a professional force. A defence doctrine must include detailed wartime tactics and strategies of the force as well as clear guidance on the mobilization and the roles of different units and formations...

Their training resume has been updated. Battalion Ansars now receive LMG,HMG, light & heavy mortar and radio operation training.

Their training resume is set in a way, that in case of a war they will receive crash course in the district levels by BA, and they will be as par with any light infantry formation of BA. Indeed Ansar - VDP has came a long way since 2009.

Unlike Army, They are employed on different jobs. Many of them are supposed to guard Government establishments and other important places. I guess they get money where they are working at the moment.

Right now at 1 am If I shout, At least 2 of the Ansar members will hear me who are guarding nearby.
