Bangladesh: A Closer Look at Hunger and Undernutrition

What are the prevailing prices of chicken and beef in BD markets? Also that of rou, bahu, sitol, borali and ari maas? Is there a price list that i can access on the net, i mean the market prices not some online portal's as they tend to over charge and don't reflect the true price.

I am from neighbouring Assam was am curious to know about the prices there compared to my state. I believe the freshwater fishes found in both places are the same. Other than hilsa which is mainly popular amongst the Bengali community here.
In Dhaka, price are such-
Beef-550 Tk. with bone, boneless-650 Tk
Chicken(live)-150 Tk.
Mutton-700 Tk.
Rui fish-200-250 Tk.
Prawn-400-600 Tk.
Hilsa fish- 500-1100 Tk. depending on size, bigger is pricier.
Catfish-350-500 Tk.
All are in Kilogram.

Thank you friend, much obliged.

Looks ok to me, pretty similar to what we pay in NE India.

Expensive against which country? I suppose you are talking from your experience in Indonesia. But grocery price in Jakarta is 39 percent higher than Dhaka. Look at this chart from Numbeo. Beef is $6.51 in Dhaka and $8.15 in Jakarta, only chicken is somewhat cheaper in Jakarta, but all other food items are pricier in Jakarta than Dhaka.

Don't use numbeo, don't know who edit the information and from where and when the data it gets

Jakarta gov. got online data for the most up to date prices for basic commodity especially food available on wet or traditional market , and they update it daily

Numbeo take information from local sources. Their price list for Dhaka is almost correct, specially for grocery.Rice, bread and for other items, they used most expensive varieties available in Bangladesh. For example they put the price of 1 kg rice in Dhaka at 62 Taka. This is the most expensive and fine quality rice used for day to day consumption. Most variety of Rice in Dhaka is 32-55 taka. They shown milk 1 liter is 71 Taka, but regular market price for packeted 1 liter milk is 65 Taka.

Numbeo is the most prominent in the net to compare cost of living around the world. @Axomiya_lora can testify whether the price listed in Numbeo for various Indian cities are closer to realities. I don't know why it should be drastically different for Jakarta?

Can you put some item's price in dollar from your site?

Unlike Vietnam, Bangladesh has been unable to achieve great things after 1947 or 1971 because people remain dishonest, insincere and shameless as you can see in this forum. Some of us truly of a mindset who lie all the time and distort facts to look good when the reality on the ground is quite different.

These BAL brats think they can hoodwink people into believing their stories. These shameless and bickering people do not work hard to build the country but incessantly talk of a bright projection in the future. I have reason to believe that BD will remain a gutter country as it is today unless people change their nasty mindset.

Hungry people exist everywhere, BD has ways to go so Vietnam. Food security is utmost important for a country if BD wants she can learn a bit from VN. We achieved it some time ago and now exports surplus overseas.
I think VN should help BD. They need manufacturing to develop their economy. VN should build an automobile factory in BD.

Up-coming Projects for Enhancing Regional Connectivity
▪ Construction of 2nd Railway-cum-road Bridge over the river Karnafuli near Kalurghat Bridge (To be financed under EDCF fund)
▪ Construction of Dhirasram ICD with allied works (Likely to be financed by ADB)
▪ Conversion of Dhaka-Chittagong corridor into DG (financed by ADB)
▪ Fauzderhat-Chittagong Port and Chittagong-Dohazari DG Double Line (Likely to be financed by ADB)
▪ Railway Connection with Matarbari – Maheshkhali Power hub and Deep Sea Port (Likely to be financed by ADB).
▪ Double tracking between Joydevpur to Ishurdi (Under proess).
▪ Procurement of rolling stocks. ▪ Dhaka city circular elevated rail line (Fesibility study going on)
Parbatipur-Ishurdi-Khulna Double Line ▪ Upgradation of Jessore-Benapole section (Under process).
▪ Dhaka-Laksam via Comilla Highspeed elevated line (feasibility study going on)
Construction of Bogra-Sirajganj DG rail line (Under process).
By reading your list of development works, it seems only two are undergoing and the remainders are under discussion or feasibility study. Am I wrong? Anyway, how about a project concerning the relieving the population Dhaka from the waterlogging menace in Dhaka? Technologically, it is possible to do away with this issue since Dhaka is surrounded by four rivers, Balu, Turag, Dhaleswary, and Buriganga.

Free the dead Dhaka waterway channels of illegal occupation, dig them deeply, raise the banks of the four rivers and provide pumping stations at the mouth of channel discharge points. I said it simply, but this project will require huge money and trained manpower to survey and design the entire drainage system. But, this will cause to make Dhaka a more liveable city.

Talk to the people of the ruling party, do it yourself instead of waiting for JICA fund.
