BD has a defense agreement with China. BD is the second biggest purchaser of Chinese military goods. It is not about to turn anti chinese.

Could you inform us about what defense agreement BD has with China?

India is a problematic neighbour. BD knows how to deal with it. BD wont be fighting any war on behalf of india. BD weapons purchase all targets india, we just do not officially go around shouting about it. India if it ever fought against the chinese will be broken into smithereens.

Why is India a problematic neighbor? India just gave you a batch of 120 mm mortars. So why do BD weapons purchases target India?
India can hold its own against China, at least for sometime. A two front war is where India will need help. Why wouldn't BD be fighting a war on behalf of India? There is a treaty obligation, and BD and India have jointly fought Pakistan before.

Rafale is out of question due to costs. EFT + J10/Gripen/F-16 is the right combination.

A mix of J-10 and Gripen/F-16 in the single engine segment would provide sufficient redundancy against supplier strings (The US might back India while China might back Burma)

I wouldn't paint all Pakistanis with that brush just as all Bangladeshis shouldn't be painted with the same as well.

But yeah, attitudes like the post above do much to chase others away from this forum which is a damn shame.

In any case, I try hard to sort of tow the Islamic unity line as we SHOULD, but truth be told its difficult sometimes given the attitudes you see here.

The US has greater interests in India than in Bangladesh. The US is likely to entertain Indian requests of halting aircraft supplies to BAF.
They can do this for any Western fighter jet.

J-10s would come in handy in such a scenario.

Islamic nationalism is sacrosanct but where BD nationalism is in conflict with Pakistani nationalism absolutely no quarter need be given. What are they going to do, give someone a ban for highlighting racist hypocrisy. Thats a very small price to pay for BD.

Given it is going slow, its reassuring that something WILL be bought.

My question though, if it is a Western fighter, there has been next to no talk about it in the news from Western manufacturers, except of course from Boeing about the AH-64E.

BAF i can categorically confirm was talking to RAF and UK government throughout this year. I suspect its the EFT. At the time fairly reliable source confirmed BAF was seeking to place an order for 1 sqd old and 8 new. They did not know if the old was to be generation 1 efts.

I suspect generation 1 EFT is something BD would seek to avoid.... but even if it was not nothing is for sale that we know off in the public domain and anything new the delivery time would be atleast 3 years away. For new EFT with meteor this is acceptable.

On the otherside F16s are potentially being offered....

Regarding the Eurofighter:

Germany, at least seems like it wants to evolve it further to a Tranche 4 and 5.

If that is the case, perhaps Italy and UK will want new builds with similar capabilities freeing up Tranche 2 and 3 for resale.

I agree, it's wise to avoid the early Tranche 1.

The other pathway would have just been a single type in quantities.

Truthfully, 2 or 3 squadrons of a Western type would be MORE than adequate for Bangladesh for defensive purposes if mated to a robust support system and communications.

The complicating factor here though I think is the politics behind the purchases given competing interests.

This is a HUGE decision for the nation with many implications, more so strategically than tactically.
