Assam demands repatriation treaty with Bangladesh

Have you actually read the article? It says RAW actually helped to broke the peace deal.

But strangely, after factional fighting erupted between the two factions in 1982, the R&AW supported the Larma brothers and not the strongly pro-Indian Priti Kumar. Later in the decade, the two groups were brought to be table and R&AW brokered a peace deal between them, under which the Priti group was declared the ‘Niskriyo’ (inactive) group and asked to give up arms. As a sequel, most of the fighters loyal to Priti Kumar went back to Bangladesh and surrendered.

Bangladeshi Insurgents Say India Is Supporting Them - NYTimes.com

Where'd you think they got all the resources to fund their campaigns? From mango trees? It was they who said it, not Bangladesh government (mind you).

Anybody can say whatever he/she wants to get his 15 mins of fame, what's important is the proof.

Um, did you even bother to read the article properly?

It was the rebels themselves said it. And the article is very original. What more proof do you need?

Apparently, the whole thing never really got down well with some of India's forefathers.
Originally, the award of the Boundary Commission was to be made public on 13 August. But Mountbatten was reluctant to make this public. According to Philip Ziegler, the author of Mountbatten's official biography, the case of the Chittagong Hill Tracts was uppermost in Mountbatten's mind. "He (Mountbatten) foresaw an Independence Day marred by rancour, Nehru boycotting the ceremonies, India born in an atmosphere not of euphoria but of angry resentment. So Mountbatten decided to announce the award only on 16 August when the celebrations were over. As Zeigler writes, "India's indignation at the award of the Chittagong Hill Tracts to Pakistan may have been a factor in making up Mountbatten's mind to keep the reports to himself till after independence".
Mountbatten was himself surprised by the ferocity of Sardar Patel's reaction to the issue. In his memoirs he wrote: "The one man I had regarded as a real statesman with both his feet firmly on the ground, and a man of honour whose word was his bond, had turned out to be as hysterical as the rest. Candidly I was amazed that such a terrific crisis should have blown up over so small a matter. However, I have been long enough in India to realise that major crises are by no means confined to big matters." Leonard Mosley in his book The Last Days of the British Raj puts it "This is a matter for Mountbatten's conscience.

During the 1970s and 80s, there were attempts by the Government to resettle the area with Bengali people. These attempts were resisted by the tribals, who, with the latent support of neighbouring India, formed a guerilla force called Shanti Bahini. As a result of the tribal resistance movement, successive governments turned the Hill Tracts into a militarised zone. Professor Bernard Nietschmann wrote a letter about Shanti Bahini and the Chittagong Hill Tracts people to the editor of the New York Times by published on October 25, 1986 (archived by the Fourth World Documentation Project) at the Center for World Indigenous Studies website.

Look, these all are rumours and hearsays. RAW was severely weakend in 80s thanks to Morarji Desai. They didn't have means to support an insurency. They sheltered the chakmas, kept the warring fraction at check. When the hardline fraction got out of control they made them surrender to Bangladesh. That's it.

I agree with ijadani. Not only assam. All NE should declare independence for mainland India. Otherwise bangladeshis will conquer all north-east by using their people power. GoI is totally incapable in stopping Bangladesh's people power(actually, they welcome them. So, they can gain vote from them) And that manmohan will gift all assam to Bangladesh(India to lose 10,000 acres in land swap deal with Bangladesh) for vote bank.

What will you do with them? Make them wear lungis and teach them how to pole vault into India?

BTW where is that old Munshi? He is the first one to comment on India Bangladesh threads.

No we will gift them with Hasina or Khaleda whichever they want.

Assam should declare independence and sign a repatriation treaty with India so that India is forced to repatriate non Assamese from Assam. Otherwise there is no future for Assam. Bangladesh should extend all out moral/financial support to indigenous Assamese.

First extend the support to your own population!
140-150 million poors caged in 147,000km^2 of Brahmputra's 'Delta' belt which according to your own countrymen would be underwater by next century. It's not a funny site or statistics.

Most of the Indian states (there are 26 of them) have more area than your entire country. And even the least developed states are much better off than Bangladesh let's not even talk about states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Punjab.. I don't wanna insult your country more. But Bangladesh is Somalia of South Asia. Even countries like Nepal and Bhutan do better than Bangladesh. Bangladesh is such a shame on South Asia.

And why would Indians (Assemese) want independence from India? loooooool okay then. :D
