yes I agree with you Mental patients often project their issues on others. That's why the advise don't miss the next dose and next doc visit.

Take their advice then.

It is diffucult to prove, and I'm not sure if I can do it. I am just saying that not all Indians may understand the significance of "chinky" as a racist term, that is all. It's kind of like "paki". Some consider it racist and others just consider it a shortened version of "Pakistani".

Nevermind then. I'll just do what I usually do, i.e. judge the meaning based on the context.

Don't get me wrong, when used on the internet "chink" is almost always derogatory.

I'm just saying that there are cultural reasons behind why you see it so often, and why some Indians aren't bothered in using it.

Fair enough.

Honestly it's not even the word that bothers me by itself, it is the sheer volume of usage. Though of course, it could be just a handful of suicide trolls re-registering over and over again.

Racism should not be encourage by using "excuses" like "we don't even consider its racist term" in our country, here is a pretty interesting article regarding wrong perception of "racism" among children in HK, do you think they are "racist" by nature or "bad infleunce" by the so-called "excuses" from certain members on this forum?

I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the lameness we possess insiiiiide. Give them an over-developed sense of pride, to make it easier. Let the children’s prejudice remind us how we ought not be…

From the news tab, an anonymous tipster points us to a blog which took an amusing and slightly dil-warming look in to what tweens and teens in Hong Kong think of other Asian people:

When you think about Filipinos, what comes to your mind?

"Tak-shing Building!"
"They know how to sweep the floor!"
"I see them in Central all the time."
"Bun-bun. Filipina girls. But I have never met a Filipino guy yet."

Do you feel that you disrespect them by calling them such names?

"Hey, they come here to work. We have more money than they have. They are getting paid, so wouldn’t you say that they can be ordered around?"

Someday, you will be working and earning money too, and you will give spending money to your mother. Does that mean that you can order your mother around?

"But how can that be the same? My mother is not a Filipina."

Awesome. And now, on to the germane part (aside: does anyone know what “Ah Cha” means?):

When you think about Indians, what comes to your mind?

"They’re very ugly!"
"Some of them wrap their heads up. Some have a red dot in the forehead. They have big beards."
"They’re Ah Cha (阿差). Why do you have to ask?"
"Hey, how can you be like that? Do you know what they call us Hong Kong people?"
"I don’t know."
"They call us ‘friends’."

Finally … finally I heard something that passes as acceptable!!! I went from wanting to cry out of despair to wanting to cry out because I was touched! A three-hour class with twenty young Hong Kong students between the ages of 9 to 15. Sixteen of them said the above, three maintained their silence and a girl said that last thing … luckily, among the twenty, one of them was decent.
To the parents of the children — how are you teaching your children!!!!!
No worries, yaar. We’re teaching our children to be equally obnoxious. ;)

^^^ Added to that, here is an interesting video that was originally posted by Developereo, showing how children see race.

It is very shocking, to see how such young children can pick up these ideas.

I would argue that it is the legacy of Western colonialism.

I guess barack obama was the result of it... heh. these kids don't have any colonialism exposure or being taught to them...its just plain simple TV. they see news every day that shows blacks being caught for crimes more... and then ofcourse all the cool toys tend not to be black characters. But very many evil guys are dark or wear black. its a very famous test, try it on your kids, it has a chart of light to dark cartoon figures on paper- I can't remember the name grrr...

LOL...... China has major problems with some SE Asian countries but India is totally irrelevant to the picture.

Do you Indians think SE Asians look at you with respect and admiration? SE Asian countries are much richer and advanced than you are. Not to mention they have much better ..... public sanitation.

There is a Malayasian saying "If you see a poisonous snake and an Indian......"

Why do you Indians pretend to be your former colonial masters "the West" just because your official language is English? Do you really think you're fooling anybody pretending to be a superpower while wallowing in a third world hole?

We are moving closer and closer to http://www.defence.pk/forums/india-defence/86894-second-indo-chinese-war-2013-2015-a.html

After all, India is poorer and more backward than these SE Asian countries! Self-deluding Indians think SE Asians are going to look up to India with admiration and respect? Still trying to pretend you are as great and powerful as your former colonial masters?

There is a Malayasian saying "If you see a poisonous snake and an Indian......"

When You say this Thing . you forget That your country too has poor people .... you are still a developing country Not developed - so cut the crap

I really don't like to join such threads opened by indian members..but stop comparing your self with China learn it once and for all. You are no where near China.

Obviously most Asian countries have never thought very highly of the Chinese at any point of time. Being a sweatshop of the western world, China is not about to win the respect of Asian countries. Its state-run media, communist policies and cozying up to rogue nations is increasingly being frowned upon by the rest of Asia.

Obviously you are delusional even Japanese are amazed and dazzled, Most Asian countries are getting close to China seeing it as potential trusted partner as many are already. China is sweatshop of the East and West again you are delusional. Ah yes I can list state run media of india as well. So if someone is looking to safeguard their interests you call them communist policies. What would be indian policies anti-state or not?
If getting close to states to help them polish their economies and help them in general. 99% Asian states are not frowning at China only INDIA has that ugly habit. Rogue state define it for every nation it is a different definition as terrorism is undefined so is rogue term.

Go learn and fix your problems in india before jumping at the world's 2nd biggest successful economy and soon to be No 1.
