That's bullcrap.
In both Urdu and Hindi, the proper word is cheena or cheeni. The version with 'k' or 'ku' instead of the i/a at the end is a derogatory variation, like 'fatso' or 'fatty' v/s 'fat'. If you are saying that the derogatory version has become common in India, that's unfortunate.
Meaning of a word change with the lands.
A word which might have one meaning in some part of the world might have a completely different meaning in some other part of the world.
