Army should be looking for a NEW Sub Machine Gun (SMG)

The G-36C is what is replacing the MP5 in service with Saudi Armed Forces.

Latest performance report in "Al-Barryah" Magazine states that testing have proved to be satisfactory and was given the go ahead to start the phasing in of this gun to replace the MP5.

Here is the difference between the G-36K top (Future main assault rifle of SAF replacing the G-3) and G-36C botttom.

G3 6C is best.. I have used it many times (in Modern Warfare 2) :D

G36C is a compact rifle best suited for CQB/guard duties. A battlefield rifle must have a longer and heavier barrel for extended range (600 meters +) and accuracy.

Then the title is misleading. SMG are weapons used in CQB/Guard duty. Unless this thread should have been named "Assault Rifle" because it is a bit confusing.

.
Title is NOT misleading, this is EXACTLY what the Army is looking for and has solicited as such! It may be another matter if the Army itself is confused between an SMG and Assault Rifle! :guns:

7.62x39mm caliber - This is for assault rifles.

MP-7 and other PDWs like P-90s are good options but very expensive.

Why SMGs for army anyways? they anyway gonna face 7.62x39mm caliber or standard NATO 5.56x45" in conventional/non conventional battle. SMGs lack range in that scenario IMO.

We already have P-90s in service.

Pak Army classifies AK-47 as its SMG and not an Assault Rifle, the G-3 is designated as an assault rifle.

So, the thread title isn't misleading, rather the PA has made it confusing :)

Pakistan Army is looking for a new SMG in 7.62x39mm caliber. Any suggestions?

are you part of the decision makers?
is it only us you are taking suggestions or from other people too?

I would suggest Americanised version of AK 47
please ensure that my request is passed to the people making that decision.

source of these news?????????????????

I see. Well that classification is confusing indeed. What is the basis of this classification if I may ask?? Size? Weight? Barrel length?? Range?? Because this is a classification I never heard of I am afraid.

The FNH P-90 is NOT a 7.62x39mm weapon. Its 5.7mm weapon and as such such an ammo is ONLY made by the Belgians! Therefore Army will not go for a weapon platform for which ammo is ONLY exclusively available from the manufacturer itself. Secondly, PAF is facing serious problems these days with the P-90 ammunition from Belgium due to some export restrictions. Initially the ACM Guard used to carry P-90's and now they have reverted back to MP-5!

We already have P-90s in service.

Western countries are professional backstabbers and law breakers whenever it suits them. there is a great need to only do business excluding the West.

Pakistan does use Heckler and koch G3 rifles, throughout the wars it has fought, Usually any rifle system contracts are few thousand units along with dies and mold, fixtures, jigs and machine tools for license production.

Hence a westen vendor should not be a problem

all of the above

the ammo size might have been in the mix but since both assault rifle and SMG have same caliber so that doesnt apply.
basically SMG is just a portable version of an MG.. i.e. instead of single shots the emphasis will be on bursts for suppression fire and targeting multiple targets. the bigger magazine size can be also another indication.
the smallest unit of an infantry is a section in a conventional sense 10 soldiers headed by a JCO carrying an SMG, rest carrying rifles and one with the LMG.

but assault troops will normally carry SMGs to act as rapid fire/ suppression fire and mobility and with the secondary role of acting like a rifle can be another thing to consider.

by the way.. there is no hard an fast definition of an SMG

it can be an AK-47, then what about MP5 and its class of rapid firing guns? its down to personal interpretation

I know

but my comment was very basic layman explanation of how export controls work
sometimes units that have duel use can be barred to us although still having major NATO ally tag.

I remember when our offciers were attending a meeting in Brussels (NATO HQ) and there were news about barring components for field generators which is really stupid.
problem with Europe custom (business) is that it follows American lead and sometimes backs off from its commitments .

There is one very consistent problem with both Pakistan and India. It is mind boggling that countries that produce ballistic missiles and fighter jets cannot make a decent modular rifle system.

Used the VZ 58 a couple of times, it is a bit better than the Ak(totally different in terms of internal mechanism).

But we need something more refined than this.
