What's new

Army should be looking for a NEW Sub Machine Gun (SMG)

g-36 will be best as we already have license for producing G-3 MP-5 from germany .

.
Who exactly is this requirment for? SFs? Who uses Mp-5s in PA?

All the units used Mp5 as the lighter calibre to G3, and SF's still use it for CQb

The problem arose when around 4 or so years back, some tests were conducted and the 9 mm bullet was considered ineffective against a target wearing body armour and having a distance. So the MP's and all the soldiers on duty then got the Chinese variant, type 56 and G3.

So it makes no sense really to keep MP5 with the whole army.

Mind you, it is still a weapon of choice in CQB and hostage clearing scenarios.

^ 5.56 mm ?

What you think is wrong as MKEK has an MOU for licensed HK production.

Dear sir, Please do note:

The rifle you mention is license produced HK416 is an AR 15/ M16 platform, Same lower receiver and the short piston to reciprocate the bolt carrier derived from AR18 (which was also cloned by G36).

Hence my comment a dressed up AR.

I know my rifles

Point being?

The way a few members here have presented the case that definition of SMG for PA is loosely around a carbine, the best option wold be a bullpupp rifle, low recoil, full length barell.

Norinco guys make a pretty decent bullpup,

Or just select an AR based model, it's pretty modular, you can switch from 5.56 Nato to 7.62X 39 by just changing the upper, its one of the most accurate platforms ever built.

HK-416 or as Taimi said, Ak-103.

BTW, why the 7.62? Whats the problem with a 5.56? 5.56 also gives alot of variety, a bigger pool to choose from.

MP-5 has totally gone bust since the last 3-4 years or so.

Because 7.62 is a potent round and can penetrate body armour, 5.56 sucks

G36C is a compact rifle best suited for CQB/guard duties. A battlefield rifle must have a longer and heavier barrel for extended range (600 meters +) and accuracy.

The G-36C is what is replacing the MP5 in service with Saudi Armed Forces.

Latest performance report in "Al-Barryah" Magazine states that testing have proved to be satisfactory and was given the go ahead to start the phasing in of this gun to replace the MP5.

Here is the difference between the G-36K top (Future main assault rifle of SAF replacing the G-3) and G-36C botttom.

G3 (7.62x52) is still the mainstay battlefield rifle for PA, followed by Chinese SMG (7.62x39). Limited units also use varint of AR15(5.56x45). MP5 (9x19 Para) is mostly used for guard duty, its effective range is no more than 50 feet.

If PA is looking to replace the G3 (about half a million in service) then in my opinion it should design its own rifle in 7x39 range, which would be lighter than 7.62 caliber hence more can be carried and heavier than 5.56 thus more potent.

After producing G3 rifles for 30+ years, POF should have enough in-house knowledge & expertise. If not, then hiring some good engineers from abroad (there are tonns of them) would be a lot cheaper than liscence manufacture of any european/western design.

XYON: Correct me on this , the 7.62x39 cartridge is our of service since long time ago & i don't find any SMG using such cartridge today.

Nope! the 7.62x39mm ammo is very much in production & ammo-of-choice at this time by the Pakistan Army. The Chinese T-56 Assault Rifle uses this type of ammo.

No Sir We are looking forward to replace MP-5 not HK G 3 if it would have been G 3 than HK-417 would have been a good option but to replace MP 5 HK 416 or HK G36 would be good option

We are talking abt a 7.62mm sub machine gun.. here not 9mm like mp-5...

Although good for POF to do JV with Heckler Koch on different projects but I rather prefer:
