Army’s one-day spending equivalent to one-year education ministry budget

That's 16% of government budget, not the GDP. Do you not know the difference between the two?

Furthermore, it's actually around 22%, not 16%. Our spending of GDP on education is around 2%, so it would be 10% at least of budget. As they say, don't believe everything you're told from the media.

Actually, I quoted it so that you could see that it is 16% of the budget, not the GDP, without calling you an idiot, which would have been impolite. I do know my differences, thank you very much.

The point is that even that 16% is many times the outlay on health and education, and this has grave consequences for the future of social development.

I have also pointed out that this imbalance is caused many extreme pressures on the state, and the sooner they relax, the sooner can this imbalance be corrected.

It's not as big an imbalance as some would have you believe. We spend around 2% on education, 1.5% on health, which is much more than what some will have you believe.

When the WoT ends, we'll hopefully get more money spent on health and education.

Oh I agree, the point being the recognition that there is an imbalance, no matter what the magnitude, that is unsustainable in the long run, but caused by external and internal pressures.

The WoT is only one such pressure, since the imbalance has been present long before the WoT started, and thus may outlast the WoT as well, unless tackled with some fresh thinking taking into account the nuclear deterrent and actively planning for its dividends.

I believe the money allocated for health and education has not been spent fair and full in the rightful areas mass corruption makes it look less.

Collect more taxes from big fishes, and all small, medium and large factories/companies you get enough to spend in all sectors..

Although huge spending on defence needs to be curtailed, nonetheless, the title of the article is misleading. Education ministry budget should principally be compared with defence ministry budget. The writer has correctly highlighted that huge spending on defence needs to be curtailed, however no mention has been made of the ways and means to counter the Indian Armed forces, which primarily target Pakistan. The writer should have mentioned that budgetry expenditure on Pak Army has decreased from more than 30 % of total allocation in 1998 to mere 8.5 in 2011. This is a sizable reduction by any measure. I think pak army needs the support of all Pakistanis in current war agaisnt a faceless enenemy and we all should try to boost the morale of armed forces instead of lowering it.

Unfortunately typical, reactionary response. What does the Army do to protect its civilians? They man the chowks and masajid and entry points all over the country to protect the civilians from COVID-19. They open up all of their hospitals and excess capacity to help deal with the surge in the COVID-19 cases. They tackle all of the emergency situations including flooding/earthquakes, relief work etc. etc.

Drones and US choppers coming in is a matter of capabilities and intent. What we spend in one day on our military, the Americans spend per minute on their military. So when you make such simplistic complaints about spending on mil, let's not get carried away.

Give up on the Kashmir claim, return Azad Kashmir and surrender Sir Creek and Siachen glacier to India and then all the money can be diverted from the military to whatever you like.

The answer is to find ways to generate more revenue and fund education and public sector. Taking from Paul to pay Peter creates other problems.

Without our military, our streets would have been overrun by thugs and goons of local political mafias. Police would become private guards of those political mafias. Pakistan would have become the Bangkok for the Indians to have fun.
