Wrong figures & explanation.
The education budget of the federal & provincial govts when combined together comes to somewhere the 110-120Billion mark per year, thus the education budget is not equal to the one day of what the military spends.
Writers / people just quote the federal budget allocation of the education which off course is low, since that budget is for the schools, colleges or universities which are under the Federal govt, but people forget that major educational infrastructure is under the provincial govt.
If my memory corrects me, Rs.26B was allocated by Sindh govt for education, Punjab had also something close to 23-25B, Baluchistan has also Rs.20-21B for education and the KPK govt also something above Rs.20B mark. Add to it the Rs.16B for HEC which used to be above Rs.21-22B or more during the time of Military ruler Mushy uncle, but the democrazy govt reduced tht HEC budget and then add into it the Rs.5B budget of the federal education ministry.
So, the article does not shows the clear picture and misquotes the figures to just fulfill another military bashing agenda.
Plus,we have heard about the thousands of ghost schools stories which eat out of the education budget, the teachers on the payrolls but in reality are not there etc etc, all this money going into someone else's pocket. Corruption at its high.
If this current budget of education is used effectively and efficiently, i can assure you we can start getting quality human resource as well as literacy rates going up without the need to ever mention the military budget. Right now even if we reduce the military budget and give it to education and health, majority will go to corruption, so better keep it utilized by the military who tleast do it effectively and efficiently when it comes to how the education budget is used.
And by the way, the same military is running hundreds of schools and has given thousands of scholarships to the poor children who can get education and be a part of this society through the Fauji Foundation and other en devours.
So, its the civilian govt which needs to reduce corruption and use their funds effectively and efficiently, once they do tht and show results, then we can give them more budget.
