Today the trenched of the militants were also pounded and just one hour ago i was talking to my brother there he said about 33 more of the militants were killed. one of their commander was also killed.

Pakistan gunships raid militant bunkers: army
ISLAMABAD, Nov 16, 2007 (AFP) - Pakistani gunship helicopters launched fresh attacks on pro-Taliban bunkers in the troubled northwest on Friday, as clashes that have left nearly 100 militants dead entered a fourth day, the army said.
The army launched a major operation on Tuesday against followers of a firebrand Islamic cleric who took over a large swathe of the scenic Swat Valley, a former tourist spot until an insurgency erupted in July.
Chief military spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad said Cobra choppers Friday pounded two "miscreant" bunkers as well as mountain positions near the airport at Saidu Sharif, one of the main towns in the area.
Artillery strikes in the same area on Thursday killed 40 rebels including a top commander, he said. The raids were in retaliation for a mortar strike on the airport on Wednesday night that killed two soldiers.
"We launched retaliatory fire. We intercepted the militant communications which confirmed they lost 40 men," Arshad said, adding that he had no details of casualties for Friday's fighting.
He said a leading militant commander named Matiullah was among the dead.
Residents said that Matiullah's funeral was led by the militant movement's fugitive leader, cleric Maulana Fazlullah -- who is known as Mullah Radio because he has a private radio station that calls for attacks on troops.
"We have lost a strong mujahid (holy warrior) leader," militant spokesman Sirajuddin said by phone from an unknown location, referring to Matiullah.
Arshad said troops were still hunting for Fazlullah.
In another part of the valley, troops dug in overnight and launched new attacks against a "heavy presence of miscreants who are occupying various heights" along one of the main roads leading toward China, Arshad said.
Insurgent advances in and around Swat have embarrassed the government of President Pervez Musharraf, who cited growing Islamic militancy as one of the key reasons for declaring emergency rule on November 3.
He has since ordered the regular army -- rather than the locally recruited paramilitary forces -- to take the lead in tackling the unrest, which has spilled over from the neighbouring tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
Arshad said 20 militants were killed on Thursday and 33 on Wednesday in several other incidents.
A separate army statement said that militants retreating from Saidu Sharif airport were "threatening innocent civilians of dire consequences" if they did not give them refuge.
It added that militants "disguised some of their dead bodies in the uniform of the Frontier Constabulary" to make it appear as if they were soldiers.
Militant spokesmen were not available to comment on the claims.

Hmmm...all of a sudden the militants are getting wiped out with ease. That would imply that the military was quite restrained and/or relying to heavily on the Paramilitary before.

Agno the army was observing much restraint in the past and there was no direct operation against these terrorists beacuse there were hunderds of civilians in these areas.
As soon as the civilians moved to safer places Fazlullah men start occupying empty check posts and police stations.
the government was watching it quietly just to avoide Civilian casualties and as i said before it was good for us that the militants had occupied some check posts as after their arrival common people moved out of these areas and Army had started operation.
If you follow news and im telling you the real news from Swat valley the civilian casualties are 0.1 percent.
i guess now u understand how they are wiped out easily.

Excellent strategy. My own impression was that the whole "captured territory by militants" thing was all part of the plan, as you mentioned, because no one in the caretaker NWFP admin. and the Army ever seemed worried about it. Now we know why. Now if the civilians would only start leaving Baitullah's area....

more thn 200 hundered millitants killed till today, but there willbe strong fight with them in comming days.
they are getting more equipment , hardware and they have strong backup. but they are going lose all because of air power , pakarmy using now.
before , the start of swat opreation, forces dont have freedom to use LASSER POINTED weapons, which they are using now??????

I talked to my brother just few minutes back he also confirmed saying it would be decisive.
And GUess what atlast it was stated Officialy which i had been saying since start that there are foriegners in Swat who are bheading soldiers and civilians.
as i was saying there is major enemies of Pakistan behind the grumsome attacks on army.

Pakistan says offensive looming in militant valley
RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, Nov 17, 2007 (AFP) - Pakistan will launch a major operation "any time from now" to clear militants loyal to a pro-Taliban cleric from a scenic northwestern valley, an army general said Saturday.
Major General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, director general of military operations for the Pakistan army, said he hoped the mountainous Swat area would be reopened for tourism by the end of December.
He said five days of clashes in which the army reports around 100 militants have been killed are only a prelude to the impending large-scale offensive.
"Our bases have been strengthened in Mingora and Besham and we are going to launch a major operation," Pasha told journalists at army headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, referring to two main towns in the region.
"The operation will start any time from now. The concept is to clear Swat of militants," he added.
"For the moment we are just picking up anybody visible and pounding any known hideouts with helicopters."
The announcement came as US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte held talks with President Pervez Musharraf aimed at urging the key US ally in the "war on terror" to end a state of emergency declared two weeks ago.
Insurgent advances in and around Swat have embarrassed the government of Musharraf, who cited growing Islamic militancy as one of the key reasons for imposing emergency rule.
He has since ordered the regular army -- rather than the locally recruited paramilitary forces -- to take the lead in tackling the unrest, which has spilled over from the neighbouring tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
Unrest erupted in Swat in July when fugitive rebel leader, pro-Taliban cleric Maulana Fazlullah, launched a campaign for the imposition of harsh Sharia law in the valley.
Fazlullah is nicknamed "Mullah Radio" because he runs a pirate FM radio station that calls for a holy war on government forces.
Pasha said that up to 500 Islamist fighters were believed to be holed up in the Swat valley, led by a "hardcore" of 50 mostly foreign militants, especially Uzbeks.
He said most of them had come from the tribal zones of Waziristan and Bajaur.
The general added that the army would use "surgical strikes" to avoid civilian casualties.
"Our main goal is to avoid collateral damage. We would have finished the job (already) in two days or even two hours if there were no civilians there, we absolutely want to avoid civilian casualties," Pasha said. AFP

16 security forces embrace Shahadat in attack by miscreants

ISLAMABAD (APP): Sixteen security forces personnel embraced Shahadat while 11 others were injured when a military convoy on a routine duty in Alwara Mandi, North Waziristan Agency was attacked by miscreants Wednesday morning.
Director General Inter-Service Public Relations Major Gen Waheed Arshad told APP that a military convoy was on a routine duty from Woocha Bibi to Garla Mai when it came under attack by miscreants.
Meanwhile, the injured have been evacuated on helicopter to CMH Bannu.

Anyways just wanted to mention that people with name Parwant are not uncommon in Swat and they are still Muslims, the worrying thing now is that the Taliban leader from Bajaur has announced a 10,000 'lashkar' against Pakistani Military Forces, it will make the situation worse, I hope some solution is reached with dialogue. The best thing would be to implement the Sharia Law as promised by the Govt. in the past. Then even after Sharia Law, if someone acts in this way, they should be punished strictly.
I do not feel majority of people from Swat believe in voilence, but it is a shame that all this has spread even to the bigger cities, all the sensible Islamic scholars always say that you can NOT win hearts by voilence, teaching Islam with kindness and love is the best way. But as you guys and girls know, majority of our people do not have much knowledge and we easily become sentimental.
May ALLH, THE MERCIFUL bring peace back to Swat and in world, Amin!
