Pune: In an ugly street battle, a group of Army officers in Pune allegedly clashed with the police following an altercation over a traffic violation, sparking tension on Tuesday evening.

According to the police, the trouble started when an officer attached to the College of Military Engineering (CME), riding a motorbike, was stopped by a traffic constable at Sambhaji Bridge for driving into a no-entry area.

The officer, and another who was riding pillion on the motorbike, reportedly had a heated argument with the traffic police. This was followed by a street brawl and the officers allegedly thrashed the constables.

After a police team arrived to control the situation, about 30 to 40 more army officers reached the spot. They reportedly barged into the nearby police post and allegedly thrashed policemen after ransacking the building.

The officers, who were in civil clothes, also allegedly broke the cameras of mediapersons and roughed up photographers and camerapersons. According to reports, some civilians who tried to intervene were also beaten up during the clash.

The situation was brought under control after discussions between senior officers from the Army and the police and an assurance that the officers involved would appear at the police station later.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Jadhav said the CME officers abused and assaulted police constables. He added that a complaint was being registered and action was being taken against the culprits. The army officers allegedly involved in the clash have been summoned to appear at the police station later this morning.

Following the incident, the General Officer Commanding of the Army's Southern Command, Lt General AK Singh, issued a statement saying, "The Army cannot tolerate indiscipline. Action will be initiated against those found guilty."

Disparity in the text and headings. It should be Young Officers and not Jawans.

Unfortunate incident. Should not have happened, hardly any reason to take law into ones own hands.

In cities police are in power....army men should keep that in mind and both police and army young guns should respect each other..

if its true then its sad...i think army should only be used when it is extremely necessary....army has to right to boss over police..

Surprised to see as a news. It happens on a daily basis in my hometown (Hisar, Haryana). Even I have witnessed such kind of events 2-3 times.
Normally it occurs when bigger convoys passes through the city and Army never bothers traffic rules at all .....
I have seen these convoys stranded on the main street even for day long.

The officers involved should be demoted at the least. To prevent this in the future they may even have to lose their commissions and be discharged.

Though, not a lawful thing but Iam happy, at least somebody thrashed the police. They need it sometimes.

Why ?

They did take the law into their own hands but thats where their offence ends and shall be treated as such.

Which law calls for demotion or termination for bashing up anyone ?

If there was such a law what would happen to the MPs and MLAs who bash up each other in full view of national TV ?

The pendulum swings both ways...what about the police officers.

Well nothing new here.

Army guys think they are above the law.

See it happening everywhere. But beating up policemen and assaulting lady constable is definitely not an officer like conduct.
Like the part where they beat up the local media guys as well. [Its big news here in Pune]

.
Hope, these army guys will get enough punishment, so that they even do not dare to do such stunts,... ..

lol @ cops... 2 days back me ... 2 of my frnds beat up a lawyer... than they called us... we went in the high court and caught the guy again... we were only 7 guys and there were like 200 lawyers... thankfully a frnd of mines dad whose the president of the HC bar came in and escorted us out... we didnt know tht they were about to beat our azz... when they locked the HCs main gate... than an SP came to our college n demanded the list of guys who went in or outside the court to kick the guys ***... coz of lawyers strike in HC multan and other regional lower courts.... me n 15 others got suspended today... pray for us people.. hope they dnt nominate us in an FIR.. fuark they know the plates of my jeep on which we went.. or il get hammered by my father when he finds out.

On topic... it reminds me of a story... SSG trainees are given different intel, reckon tasks during their training.....in short they are sent to major cities n given difficult tasks ..etc

One guy (a captain) was sent to remove a file frm a senior police officers office in his presence... he did... but the police chased him to the house where he and 2 others were hidding... the SHO(Inspector) and his men tried to enter though the door... they somehow manage to take him into the room and beat him up... to end the showdown threatened the police after senior SSG officers incharge came and told them to surrender... they surrendered... now lemme tell u tht they are also "interogated" -tortured and told not to utter a single word and say tht they are students or associated with some company or something in their HQ in an the ancient attock fort... so much tht most of them suffer frm broken bones etc... and are given a "category c" and told to go home..so u can guess what the poor guys go though...
