Army Chief: I don't believe in extension and will retire on due date

I do not accept this, Gen. Raheel is leaving Pakistan in the wrong time, also look at the happiness of corrupt & incompetent politicians. I am sure there were some really bad threats made by US against Pakistan & forcing Gen. Raheel to support DEMOCRAZY.

.
PMLn already said they will not give him extension. But, some question remained un answer. . Why Nawaz took to Saudia and Iran. Why a clear rift appeared after trip. What Nawaz was expecting from Gen Raheel. Few good question raise by Wajahat Khan. He reported a clear rift during his trip with Nawaz and Raheel.

Just check out the "khushiyan" of PPP thugs after hearing this news :hitwall: inko ko to line mein khara kr ke goli maarni chaye

.
Really how is that .. Ordinary people love him for cleaning up the mess? He started operation ZeA (cleared 95+% territory).. He has cleared Karachi .. He's there to show support to troops fighting on the front.. Built schools, hospitals, roads and bridges in FATA & Baluchistan... He formulated policies to recruit dozens of thousands of troops from deprived regions.. He's there when the people need him... He's respected and honored/awarded by Russia,US & EU... Truckers adorn their trucks with his paints... Market owners/traders,rickshaw drivers, vans, etc display his pictures.. People on social media and in cities salute him... And he's respected because he did it .. He earned people's respect.. He has done things to show for it..

Unlike modi mania .. That was powered by rehtorics and showmanship.

If you say so.

. .
It is a good decision of General sb. He know that all his juniors are same as he.

.
Remember when everyone wanted an extension for Gen Kiyani? What if Kiyani had not gotten an extension? We could have gotten Gen Raheel Sharif earlier. So have faith people, there may be several more Raheel Sharif's standing in line, who may be even better and more sincere than him.

very true :)

.
Prove otherwise... We got stats and hard azz evidence on our side.

Oh! don't get me wrong - Pakistan Military has done a bang job of killing the terrorists who are of immediate threat to Pakistan. I have no reason to doubt your statistics and facts.

All I am saying is I personally get sceptical when the whole glory is laid at the feet of Great General when it was undoubtedly the work of hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians who labored day and night to fight the menace in face of unenviable odds.

Soldiers most of all are supposed to be silent behind the scene figures in a democracy. I am sure the work done was a culmination of result of the efforts of likes of Kiyani and Musharaff and would be carried forward by Generals like Maqsood Ahmed.

What is wrong is concentrated effort in the social, print and electronic media to portray General Shaiff as the be all and end all messianic figure who saved Pakistan. This carries the stink of orchestrated PR campaign. Towards what end? I don't know - may be as a launching pad for his political innings.

Same was and is the case with generals who lead their nations to victory everywhere.. They never bled themselves.. Didn't fight battles but they were immortalised and remembered for their actions, strategic we and decision makings.
Same is with Gen Raheel.

By whom? Truckers, rickshaw drivers, traders and everybody else...! -- The ordinary people of Pakistan?

As for politics..it's very unlikely that he will run for office.. And even if he does (after 2 years from retirement). It does not matter..

What matters is that Gen is leaving behind a legacy and the next COAS will have to do better or comparable to him.. Infact he will be pushed to do so.

I am sorry but NO. Consider the greatest Generals who achieved victory in modern times - Ike and Monty in WW2, Gen Zhang of China in 62 war, Sam in 71 etc. Sure they are praised for their effort but they are not put on pedestal like Shariff and other Pakistani Generals are. Credit usually goes to the leadership - Churchill, Roosevelt, Indira Gandhi, Mao etc.

Generals are just a tool which the leadership which in this case is Nawaz Shariff use to achieve their goal

.
Good time to make such a statement, now public pressure would build up on the govt to give him an extension. He would "reluctantly" accept it keeping the greater good of the country and public opinion in mind. The guy is a PR genius.

.
Good decision. So, who will be next? My guess is that it will be Javed Iqbal Rmaday(Due to family relations with House of Sharifs) or one who is Kashmiri. As per Wikipedia, following is the seniority list after Raheel Sharif and Rashid Mahmood retire

Lt Gen Ishfaq Nadeem
Lt Gen Javed Iqbal Ramday
Lt Gen Syed Wajid Hussain

This is my list of favorites, in order of merit. I took out the others because, traditionally their posts were not line for Army Chief post. Engineer-in-Chief never became Army chief in recent years, for example.

for god sake let's not make a clear level headed man have leprosy of the mind like most of us do!

he is a through professional and let him continue and then next man hold up the banner.

THE COUNTRY COMES FIRST! and he is setting a very good and professional example!

i doubt looking at how professional Raheel Sharif has acted his advice would be to make the SENIOR MOST general the army chief!

and the government would follow the advice.

so i would expect a new example to be set by the senior most being made the army chief

lol at everyone (including me myself) who had hopes of him purging the system of corrupt fatcats/bringing electoral reform/getting rid of "true terrorism" from Pak (economic corruption) because he had the "blood of a Nishan-e-Haider" in his family.

What Raheel Sharif and Pak army have done these past 3/4 years have been cosmetic repairs. Kicking the TTP out of NWA wont root out extremism; eliminating poverty and funding education will. And the biggest roadblock to those two objectives are corrupt politicians like Nawaz and Zardari. Conducting thousands of rangers raids in Karachi wont eliminate the crime there; disarming the MQM will! And here I'd thought that the COAS would usher in a couple of permanent improvements. Business as usual, just another pawn in the hands of Sharif baradaran.

so basically the greatest and level headed army chief we ever had in your eyes is a pawn in the hands of sharif brothers.

that makes sharif brothers the biggest geniuses in the world. that they can make such a great man a pawn! please let's be mature!

How do you put somebody at the pedestal?
Nations still remember those generals even after decades... Don't they? Despite what they did decades ago... At the times when there was no such thing as social media nor was print or electronic media so much wide spread...?

And what is wrong with people respecting a general like Gen Raheel? Everybody respects him for his work.. What's wrong with that? He's not a politician.. He's an excellent soldier/general from a martial family that gave this country 2 NH war heroes ... A general who gave this nation hope.. What's wrong with people praising him ?

As for NS .. Nobody gives a shyt about a 2 faced corrupt coward politician like him.. Not even his own trader/businessmen community ..

Now don't twist my words - There is nothing wrong with respect. Infact it is great of Pakistanis to respect their soldiers something we Indians can learn.

I said that I think that there has been aggrandizement of Gen Shariff through a PR campaign to portray him and army as the only functional and good thing in Pakistan and to silence any voices of dissent.

If such is not the case and Pakistani rank and file have not been cleverly manipulated then all is well.

I have no hesitation to say that I am just speculating.
