Army Chief: I don't believe in extension and will retire on due date

I disagree with his decision but he knows best and deserves to make his call. No doubt he has served us very well and has been a great servant.

Height of foolishness is to beg for democracy then ask an army chief to clear out corruption. Heck clearing out gang crimes wasn't his job either. Corruption is our issue and if you want democracy then you will have to weed it out yourself.

If you want him to hang zardari and nawaz then make him a dictator for decades so that he can do this in peace but no fools will then democracy and then blame army... This is the issue with the nation. We are afraid to stand up on our own two feet and beg for a messiah. Well they are not coming...

Before 2013 I was talking with a brigadier and I asked him why won't army come and take out zardari. He answered that why should we? When we do this you people blame us and then spit on us. Those very analysts that are begging for us to come where the Ines criticizing us a few years ago. No. The general thought in the army is that we will not interfere and you people will have to deal with your political issues and we will do our job. Army is not politicized anymore.

So those gentlemen that are begging or thinking for the army to come and act the saviour.. Either let them and give them the forever or go with democracy and fix the system ourselves....

This simple fact eludes so many.

He should remain there ...We need him to kickout terrorism

In current situation when politicians are not willing to implement NAP it would would have been bad for his reputation. He has done an amazing job of cleaning up tribal areas and he would have taken the fall for non implementation of NAP.

Whoever will come next will surely push Nawaz on NAP and make his life a living hell if he hesitates. People here assume that policies of armed force are dictated by COAS but infact entire upper brass is involved in making decisions. Zarb e Azab and NAP are realities which will happen.

.
Always thought he was very capable and could actually challenge some of the rot in the system and help get Pak back on track. It will be a loss and hopefully the next guy will be as good.

.
Whoever comes next, he needs to be a pure soldier, the one who acts first and think later, and please no spook this time, as they think a lot then actually do something, we dont need anymore Kiyani types.

The Pakistan Army on Monday rubbished reports that the army chief would seek to extend his tenure from three to four years.

“Speculations about extension in service of COAS are baseless,” the ISPR Director General Lt-General Asim Saleem Bajwa said in a Twitter message.

While quoting the army chief, ISPR said national interest is supreme and will be safe guarded at all costs.

Earlier, the federal government has dropped the clearest hint yet that it is ready to back a proposal to extend the tenure of chief of the army staff’s office from three to four years.

Sources close to the prime minister’s office said, on the condition of anonymity, that the proposal was informally floated with the top military office. But the incumbent of the office suggested that the government should reconsider the proposal and implement it from the tenure of the next chief of the army staff, who will take charge in November 2016.

Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, they claim, effectively communicated to the federal government that he may not be interested in any extension in his office tenure. There has been a lot of media speculation round this particular question.

The idea of extension in tenures is a continuation of former military General Pervez Musharraf who gave extensions to himself from 2001 to 2008 and then General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani who was given extensions in his normal tenure and he ended up serving in the role for six years.

Sir N.S have to give him extension since he knew him that he is not power hungry and many seniors Generals going to retire in next year and N.S can't take risk to appoint young untested General in his tenure.

He gained his reputation because he is not power hungry, if he was he could have done anything and there will hardly be any resistance (if not little resistance compared to his predecessors).... Since he is not power hungry, i dont think NS would have any issue in giving him another term..... But my point was very simple..... .Quitting at Peak...... and his reputation will remain the same for ever......

Not agree with you if despite N.S request to stay he decided to leave and anything bad happened related to operation against TTP, he may be labelled a person who cares more his reputation rather then country, Just a game and words are being played to check the mood of N.S what he is thinking. You know what i mean. Both are keep checking each other and as per my observation he will definitely get the extension in service.

Tussi Ja rae o ----- Tussi na jao :cray:
Sir koi kahien b nahien ja raha they are just checking N.S mood what he is thinking to decide future plans just in case of N.S is not ready for extension.

He was just smarter than Kiyani and Musharaff as he kept up the façade of civilian govt. . Of-course I will believe him when he actually retires and after retirement keeps an hands off approach.

Regards

Smell refit between NS and Gen. He is out of picture after KSA visit. Agreement on some disagreement.

Right decision by General. It is not his job to purge corruption in politics. It is the job of people of Pakistan. If we won't do it nobody else will. There is no Messiah coming down to solve our problems. We have to do it ourselves or else remain in same mess.
we will remain in present mess rather much bigger one. This nation is ignorant and short memory. Or should i say the nation itself has gone corrupt. They want this status quo so that their corruption continues. Just have a look at them at every level, whoever gets a chance, an advantage has been taken, legally, illegally, forcibly. This nation will never wake up, because it is not a nation it is a bunch of sheep being herded.

I do not know, may be you are right, and my basic knowledge on Pakistan is limited to what i read in the net and the forum, so i wont be able to judge anything beyond this...... But last part of your post contradicts the statement of RS........
