That’s exactly right. I think the Turks and mongol conversion to Islam was necessary political step at that time the same goes for Spain with Fernando and Isabella but the thing here ataturk lived in the 20th century in which religions weren’t the main factor anymore if ataturk was born 500 years ago the situation would be different and maybe h would choose Christianity since back then in was the religion the main factor and doing so he will get the Christian Europe support against the Islamic ottomans. Also note there was already christianized Seljuk turkopoles.The reason Ataturk did not try to convert the Turks with Eastern Orthodoxy because he found a new religion which is called the Western secular capitalism. Secular capitalism has replaced most religions in the West and rest of the world. Dalai Lama, Erdogan and Narendra Modi's religion is basically pure capitalism disguised in religious flavors. Atheism does not exist as capitalism on top of liberalist ghost is now the most dominant religion in the world.
