Any computer expert here- need help

Just use the portable version of Skype. No need to install again. Hope it will work. Collect from here: Skype Portable | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB, portable and cloud drives

There are many portable software that you can use without install. Just save in some drive or pen drive, and no need to install each time you set up new windows. Once you use portable versions then you will be fan of those. It saves time and space.

Thanks guys for you help..Much appreciated :)

TheDeleteduser @ Are you sure imo let you make voice/video calls from pc to pc . I checked it and its only for instant messages . How you check whether registry is corrupt or not?

Safriz@ I only plug in extrenal drives when i watch some movies stored there.

Skies@ never heard about it but i will try it and will let you know if its work :)

Luftwaffe@ mere bhi i have been read the link u posted here and all replies there ten times even before you posted it here. I google the errors and it took me there and problem is the guy there is using window xp and i am using vista. I tried to follow his steps

Open registry editor from Start->Run->regedit
- Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox\2.0.0.7 (en-US)\Main key.(i dont get 2.0.0.7 after firefox in my pc. I get firefox then folder extensions and default vlaue not set..dont know what is thsi)

** NOTE ** the version string in key path may differ depending on the version of Firefox installed on your system.

- If the key values "Install Directory", "PathToExe" contain drive letter that is NOT your hard drive, that may be the reason why Skype installer fails. (i dont know what he is talking about ..geez this computer language lol )

** SOLUTION ** just rename temporarily the registry values and try to install Skype now. Do not forget to restore the real names of the renamed registry values afterwards!

This happens when you plug in some sort of external USB drive and it somehow messes up the drive letters temporarily.

Here is a solution:

Invalid Drive when Installing HP Software

subst should have worked if not, then you need to add c:\windows\system32 into your path environment variable

or just cmd and then cd\windows\system32 and then type it.

Basically registry is corrupt because of some issue with a USB external drive - most likely. It may also work if you put that external drive back in and then install :). I think you will get the same problem when you go to install most things. So don't remove anything you are regularly using.

Also you may consider it a lot more easier to just reinstall windows and everything else.

.
Try this too,

Goto disk management (right click computer, click manage, goto disk management)

See if you can find an I drive.

Then you can change the letter from there too. Try it, it may work.

Thanks guys for you help..Much appreciated.

You welcome, you should not have removed it in the first place just updated it.

There are many ways you can fix it, run registry cleaning software out there like tuneup utilities only after you have UNINSTALLED Skype and then remove Skype folder if it by chance is in the Programs Folder remove it, reboot it, use tuneup utilities hopefully you know how to and then reboot again and then try to install Skype.

PS. if your downloaded Skype is on USB transfer it to PC and then from there install it.

Personally I want my PC and laptops error free any errors comes by I restore whole PC as a revenge lol.
So last resort is FORMAT!!:D

Portable versions are nice and all are updated. I use VLC, MSN, Skype, Chrome, Opera, Google Earth, CCleaner, Fox it reader, Fire Fox, DVD burners and some others as portable version. I never have to install them in C drive again after any new OS set up.

You just have to extract/execute/install at first, then save in any other drive (not C drive) or pen drive, then create short cut and use. And even if you set up windows later then just you have to create short cut on desktop, no install again! It does not take space of C drive and does not use any registry.

So just download Skype from my link, extract once only in pen drive or other drive and create short cut in desktop and enjoy.

You can try this way.........hopefully will work................first of all uninstall the previous version or version you have isntalled.........
1 - From Add/Remove Programs (Control Panel)
2 - Also delete the Skype folder and all its files manually from C Drive Program Files.
3 - From Start Menu Search Box Type ...............regedit.................and then press enter it will open Registry Editor......from left side open the tree.......HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and see under this tree the skype folder delete the folder manullay............you can also see under......HKEY_USERS if folder exists there delete that folder too......................
4 - Restart your computer.
5 - Now Finally download the latest version of Skype and install...........hopefully it will work...................and if not then you will have to install new Windows (Operation System)......................

I will strongly recommend............don't use VISTA its always give errors for programs...........better to use Windows7 Ultimate...........its good one and errors and bugs free.

Download Advanced System Care 4 and install it..run the application and go to the tool box, it has got a perfect uninstaller with that you can remove any programme and after uninstalling any apps continue to POWERFUL SCAN as it shows the leftover in your syst and registry so that you can remove the leftover perfectly..As you have already uninstalled the Skype, just run the Iobit Perfect uninstaller and search for Skype in it, if any thing related is still hanging there will be displayed and can be removed..also this Software will help you remove junk files and other malicious items.. :)

a simple solution would be to down load the skype installation files to your USB & Then install from there

or just reinstall the older version that you had and upgrade to the newer version

the main issue is that skype has not fully removed from your system

by the way please check for malwares & disk space & other IP softwares using the same ports

Expect this would be helpful

A fresh OS would have been a better choice (like several members here have pointed out) to follow in such situations, because this problem may arise again but with another software. Though if you want to increase your knowledge and have time, then follow the trouble shooting (like other members have gave proper info). Good luck!

.
And using Vista is bad choice. Try to move into 7.
