What's new

American imperialism and ruthlessness masquerading as freedom and democracy.

Economy migration, is happening everywhere, not just US. It happened throughout history. From desert to rivers, From villages to cities, from countries to countries and continents to continents, it’s part of nature, like mixing of hot and cold air, or two oceans. Call it Atlantic and Pacific, draw an imaginary line, but nature will take its course.
The best way to show your disapproval is to leave, whether it is a party or a country. Now, the difference, or 'nuance', is that you can leave a party when you are tired and the party is a positive event, like a birthday celebration. Another difference, or 'nuance', is if you come to a party, it does not mean you become a member of the family that hosts that event. Every analogy has a stopping point and we just came to that.

An immigrant and emigre make a statement upon leaving for a new country. It means whatever I have now no longer works for me. The grass is truly, not perceived, is greener on the other side. In a previous comment, I used celebs Craig Ferguson and John Oliver, a couple of Britons whose country is doing well. So why did they make the ultimate statement of preference by becoming US citizens? Because to them, the grass on the US side of the fence is greener than on the British side of the fence. They were not economically destitute when they became US citizens, so what kind of 'grass' were they talking about? Politics? Culture? What? It is truly difficult for ordinary people who came to the US mostly for economic reasons to understand why wealthy people would want, and achieved, US citizenship. When we take the list of well off people who became US citizens, it becomes clear that why the US is attractive for many reasons outside of economics issues/reasons.

Why? Are these people stupid/ignorant? They do not know the history of US imperialism? They cannot make money in their own economically prosperous countries?

Those are ethnicities, American isn’t an ethnicity. It’s an immigrants nation mix of different ethnicities. Like German American. Italian American, African American and so on.
Whoooaahhh...!!! Ease off on the 'nuances', buddy...

spare me with all this bulsh*t- pay reparations first, increase wages to a solid level, make effective healthcare actually accessible, and pay off the fukn debt more- when all these happen ,i'll agree with you.

"when i active duty.."- man, enjoy your privilege in AMerican society!!! that paycheck, all the respect, govt money that goes to you guys.

my brother is in the armed forces too.

He's an old Vietnamese American guy. Probably grew up his whole life getting insulted because of his race. People who go through this usually react in two ways, they become defiant and more proud of their race, or they become bootlickers who do and say everything to have their bullies accept them. You can guess which one he is. Probably had a complex his entire life wanting and wishing to be White, that's why he literally roleplays some old White Tom Clancyesque boomer on this forum.

So if we don't agree with bombing little children, we should leave the country?

That's the basic logic of your argument, which is complete idiocy.

So if you are equating accepting American economic privileges to justifying American foreign policy, then you would also have to recognize the validity of the argument that American economic supremacy would be impossible without its warlike and bloody foreign policy that enables it to dominate and take resources of other countries in order to maintain its way of life. Is that the case you wanted to make? That your well being and good economic standing is based on murdering children an ocean away?

Looks like someone is missing the 'nuances' he accuses others of being to obtuse to see.

What the hell is with you?

Can you just stick to the topic without regressing into acting like an 8yr old?
I’ve noticed that a lot of people seem to resort to personal attacks when their argument is flushed down the toilet.

Imagine these guys once they’ve had a few beers in their system?

But it’s totally ok for him to bring up my ethnic background every time he’s lost an argument.

I didn't notice it in my browsing..and if he did he is just as guilty.

How is my argument not sound?
Well calling someone out based on their nationality or labelling them a “boomer” kinda wants me to ignore everything else you articulate.

Besides, there is an argument to say that if the USA is indeed the “Great Satan” why do so many people still feel driven to migrate there?

Sure they have soft power, and the economy and the glitz and glam. But I do believe that the US has been a force for good too.

If you put the wars and conflicts to one side, just look at how much good has been done around the world through programs funded by USAID or even the Fulbright Scholarship program!

Re: Imperialism- that is subjective.

Re: Imperialism- that is subjective.
Go back through this thread. He brought up my ethnic background first. He always does, every single fucking time. It’s absolutely relevant that he’s an old Asian American because I bet you if I was white, he wouldn’t do this. Many older Asian Americans have a deeply ingrained inferiority complex and would readily insult someone else of Asian background before they do a white person, who they are trained to revere.

The US may have been a force for good at one point but considering how the neocons have basically taken full control of foreign policy for over thirty years and the immense amount of civilians murdered to satisfy the profits of war profiteers and corporations who control the politicians that create policy, that period is long gone. Lastly, his entire argument is that America’s bloody foreign policy is justified because immigrants come here for economic opportunity, which is completely nonsensical in its basic logic.

I haven’t read you replies to other posters, but all I can tell you, if someone is coming (celebrities ) or leaving, (may people renouncing US citizens for tax purposes and or US expat community in Middle East). There is always arrangement of their convenience.

Again look at things in bigger picture. Migration is part of nature, if humans can they would have stopped everything in nature. Case in point, how Eastern Europe migrate (dirty whites) were treated hundreds years ago. People have their opinions. Here in Texas, Mexicans still hold grudge against Sam Houston. Some call Texas part of Mexico. In Hawaii locals attack US troops out on liberty, every chance they get. So there will be differences of opinion and friction.

Quicker you realize this fact, and comes in term with it, more mentally peaceful your life will be.

This is party of US history 101, taught in University. I am not pulling this out if my rear. Go blame historians.

Regarding this issue, what the Chinese guy who claimed to see the 'nuances' utterly failed to understand is that immigration/emigration is ultimately a POLITICAL statement, regardless of the underlying reason(s) why someone may leave for the US.

The question is legitimate: If the US is such an evil country, then why do people continues to come to the US and finally being an American since the founding of the country?

The two issues, that the US is evil and that people continues to come to the US, cannot be separated from each other. There has to be something ultimately so attractive that it overrides other considerations. It is like a woman who knows there is a pimp in the neighborhood and willingly becoming a prostitute for him. Maybe the pimp is too handsome? Flashes too much blings? What?

So yeah...The fact that the US continues to be an attractive destination, as a political statement, for people across economic strata, pretty much flushed their arguments down the toilet.

Name calling is prominent among Middle Eastern communities too. You should see verbal fisticuffs between Irani and Arabs sometimes 😂.

I once was sat in a hookah bar in London and it all kicked off between this group of women. I definitely recognised the Iranian accents and then came the insults.

“You pompous Iranian bitch, you think that nosejob help? No amount of Botox will fix that face”

Savage 😂

So again, you have to constantly refer to me by my ethnic background, very classy, you fucking dimwit.

Secondly, your argument that America is justified in killing innocent people because people come here for economic gain is preposterous.
