Pakistan seems to be going in the opposite direction. Recently, they completely banned Bollywood. However, it is a well-known fact that Pakistani cinemas cannot make enough revenue to stay in business on Pakistani and Hollywood films alone.
Bangladesh seems to be managing a pretty strong film industry, especially since it is surrounded by a film industry giant(India). That is pretty impressive.
I know that. That does not mean it will not hurt your cinemas. Unless your gov subsidizes private cinemas, cinema owners will suffer losses.Pakistan's decision was a retalition against Indian blacklisting Pakistani singers and actors. So it wasn't a step backwards, it was a relatintion.

so the reason for not allowing indian movies is because the hate they have for Pakistan and Urdu again lols
Who cares? Not even you who posted the comment.
Hollywood and Bollywood are in every sphere of society already why make pretences by banning it in the cinema only?
All Bangladeshi film ever have the same story the same sequence of fighting, songs and dance minus the actors and actresses. Bland. Also what’s the spit off about hating Urdu/ hindi... all I see is people watching Indian tv serial in bd, low b grade ones at best.
bd films during pakistani times influenced many of the bollywood films... there are many bengali films that were famous in west pakistan too... they're too difficult to find now tbh. stored in some national archive i believeI don't know Bangla but I would love to watch an Indian Bangla film that has Pori Moni.
There is a tradition of films from Indian Bengal state of being experimental. Was there no influence of them on BD films ??
@BDforever had once posted link of a nice BD film in the Whatever thread. It was about three young men who set out to speak to the lover of one of them and they having various adventures along the way. I forgot the name.
